Trying to use Shopify POS on iPhone 14 with IOS 16. Can log into the POS app but after selecting location (Select Location button) nothing happens. Any ideas?
Topic summary
Shopify POS (point-of-sale) on iPhone 14 (iOS 16) stalls after login at the “Select Location” screen; also reported on iPad. Users cannot reach in-app settings because the block occurs during sign-in.
Tried steps (mixed results):
- Update app/OS, restart app/phone, verify internet.
- Offload/clear app data; iPad “Reset account” via iOS Settings > Shopify App.
- Uninstall/reinstall app: fixed it for one user but not others.
Most actionable fix (permissions-related):
- In Shopify Admin > Settings > Users and permissions, the store owner must open the affected user and, under Point of Sale, enable “Set up new or updated POS devices” (and ensure POS permissions are granted). Granting these permissions allowed users to proceed past location selection.
Status/outcome:
- No single universal fix confirmed. Permission adjustment appears to be the strongest resolution; uninstall/reinstall helped some. The original reporter did not confirm final success. No official Shopify response included.
Key next steps:
- Verify POS device setup permission for the user in Admin.
- If still stuck, reinstall app and re-login; contact Shopify Support if unresolved.
Hello @culicidaepress
-
Check for app updates: Make sure that you have the latest version of the Shopify POS app installed on your iPhone 14. You can check for updates in the App Store by going to the Updates tab.
-
Restart the app: Close the Shopify POS app and then open it again. This may help resolve any issues with the app not responding.
-
Restart your iPhone: Try restarting your iPhone 14 by pressing and holding the power button until the slider appears. Then, slide the power off switch to the right and wait a few seconds before turning your iPhone back on.
-
Check your internet connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection by checking your Wi-Fi or cellular data connection. The Shopify POS app requires an active internet connection to function properly.
-
Clear cache and data: Clear the cache and data for the Shopify POS app by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Shopify POS. Then, tap on “Offload App” to delete the app’s data and cache.
If none of these steps work, you may need to contact Shopify’s support team for further assistance. They can help you troubleshoot the issue and identify any potential solutions.
I have the latest version of the app but after submitting user name and password I can’t get past the Select Location Screen, so any changes to settings, clearing cache, etc is impossible because selecting the location is part of the sign-in process, and yes, I have location enabled for the app. Still waiting for a solution…
we have the same problem did all the steps suggested for iPhone, but we are on an iPad
The fix it to reset POS, on the iPad, Settings, Shopify App, turn on reset account. This will force a new login requiring user and password.
all better!
Thanks for the suggestion but after trying your solution, nothing has changed. The app still won’t go past Select Location. Still no joy.
unless you have another phone to test, not sure what else to suggest…we were unable to keep a bluetooth connection and completing an update solved that. On an iPad, just tried my phone works. Hope they come with answers soon!
Hey, I just went through the same thing and did all the things listed down below to fix the issue. None of them worked. BUT I was with support and they had me uninstall the app, install it back and then I logged back in and it worked. Hope this helps.
this keeps happening to me as well… I’ve tried deleting and re-adding the app and restarting it updating my phone nothing has worked. What is this glitch for… I have a launch date coming up for my blog and i’d like to meet the deadline.
I had the same issue just now. The problem was that I had to give permission for the POS to work. Under Settings > Users and Permissions. click on both permissions that it has. I hope that helps.
You likely already figured it out but the store owner will need to go into “Users and permissions” in Settings. Select you as a user. The scroll down to “Set up new or updated POS devices” under Point of Sale and tick the box. Simple fix but not super intuitive. You would think it would be in the app settings.
