Why does Test Mode for Payments will not work?

I am trying Test Mode and this error keeps popping up at the checkout:(

I followed the video over n over n over again still the same error message

Your card was declined. Your request was in live mode, but used a known test card.

What am I missing?

How do I not be on live mode?

are you using your real card then please don’t use it go with fake one its test mode

as directed in link you provided

"While test mode is enabled, you cannot use real credit cards to pay for orders. "

“After you are finished testing Shopify Payments, disable test mode so that your customers can pay for their order using their real credit cards.”

You’re following the correct steps to test the Shopify Payments gateway, however, it’s not working because you have a third-party checkout. On the screenshot you shared, I can see that the URL of the checkout shows a Bold Commerce URL. Testing Shopify Payments will only work on the native Shopify checkout, so instead, you may follow Bold Commerce’s guide on how to place a test order on their checkout.

Thanks that worked.

Except when I did ONLY 2#'s for the security code the payment still went through, it was not declined.

Can I fix that?


I tried a real card in real time and it declined all bad dates and security #'s.

I do have a question about the pin# for Gift Cards.

At checkout there is a spot for the gift card code#

and the it also asks for a PIN #?

Where do I get that?

As per Bold Commerce’s Help Center, gift cards created in Shopify cannot be used in the Bold Cashier checkout. You may create gift cards through their app with the steps on this page and use them at the checkout. Bold Commerce gift cards come with a PIN.
