My website’s speed is not increasing despite having images that are less than 1 MB in size. I received the Google Lighthouse report with the following scores:
Performance: 50
Accessibility: 81
Best Practices: 67
SEO: 67
I am looking to enhance the performance and speed of my website. Could you provide me with some suggestions?
a) go to gtmetrix.com and pagespeed.web.dev and get the actual speed of your store and do not reply on the speed numbers in shopify’s dashboard
b) go to ONLINE STORE - > select ACTIONS dropdown and DUPLICATE your store
c) select another theme, you should have DAWN basic or other basic them.
d) publish the DAWN or other free theme
e) Open a new tab with gtmetrix and page speed and then test your store again
Did the #'s change?
Sometimes, themes get bloated with apps or the theme itself isn’t very fast or javascript and css aren’t optimized or a single app may be bloated and causing the slow down.
By using a basic theme, you can test the speed of the service.
Then switch back to your live theme. You will then need to view the WATERFALL tab on gtmetrix to see what it is complaining about. Making images smaller is just a part of optimizing for speed. (ie: see this: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/store-speed/improving-speed ) but disregard their dashboard.
There are things you CAN control and things you CANNOT control. If you are unhappy with the store speed, you can reach out to a Shopify Expert to help.
Well, having good page speed can significantly help your website to perform and rank better. Here are some suggestions you can consider:
Removing unused and unnecessary JavaScript and CSS
Implement AMP (Accelerated Mobile Page), which can allow Google to store the cached versions of the pages on mobile servers and reduce their loading time on mobile devices
Use GZIP for textual compression of scripting on the website
