Hi everyone
,
I’m reaching out to see how many other multi-market merchants are struggling with the current pricing logic in Shopify Markets.
The Problem: Math vs. Psychology Currently, Shopify Markets only offers basic mathematical rounding (e.g., to the nearest .99 or whole number). While mathematically “correct,” it’s commercially broken.
The Real-World Example:
-
Base Price: 1,000 SEK
-
Converted to DKK: 701 DKK (after rounding 700,56)
-
The Problem: No retailer in Denmark wants to sell a premium product for “701.00 DKK”. It looks unprofessional. It should be 699 DKK or 700 DKK.
Why the current workarounds fail:
-
Percentage Adjustments: A flat +x% doesn’t fix the rounding; it just moves the “ugly” number to a different ugly number.
-
Manual Pricing: Impossible to maintain with a catalog of hundreds/thousands of SKUs.
-
Fixed Prices: Setting fixed prices in secondary currencies creates “reverse conversion” nightmares for those of us running POS/physical stores in our base currency.
The Solution: We need Advanced Psychological Rounding Rules per Market. We should be able to define:
-
Rule X9: Round up to the nearest ending in 9 (149, 199, 499).
-
Rule X5: Round up to the nearest ending in 5 (145, 195, 495).
-
Thresholds: For products over 100 EUR, round to the nearest 10 or 100.
Business Impact: Psychological pricing isn’t a “nice to have”—it’s Retail 101. By not allowing this, Shopify is forcing us to choose between unprofessional pricing or hundreds of hours of manual labor. This is a massive barrier for any merchant trying to scale internationally using Markets.
Who else is dealing with this? If you are tired of seeing “701.00” or “€93,95” in your international stores, please upvote and comment. We need Shopify to understand that global pricing requires marketing logic, not just a calculator.
