Why is Someone (initials YA) Already Logged into My Account When I Try to Logon?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Someone is already logged into my account before I could even log on. See screenshots; I also took a video of this.

My store initials are GS. Every day when I navigate to shopify.com and click the Log in link, someone with initials YA is already logged in. After a few seconds, the YA disappears and the login field appears (where I enter my email address).

I am looking for answers because this issue is delaying our store launch. It appears that some people are trying to deliberately thrwart our launch. They have edited my product code so that it is inoperational.

I reached out to shopify support and received a highly concerning response. They said that this YA issue happens to everyone with a shopify store. That the YA acts as a placeholder. This automatically didn’t make sense to me as the YA has a Log Out drop-down option, which means that another person is logged in (not me). I have a video of this.

When I challenged shopify support on this, I didn’t receive a response so here I am. That was two days ago; still no response from shopify.

Why would shopify allow another person to be logged into my store and then do nothing about it upon my notifying them about it? This YA person was logged into my account again this morning. I am documenting these incidents.

If anyone, know how I could directly contact Shopify management, please let me know as they should be aware of this.

Hi, @GTskn

Thanks for posting! This post should help others in your situation.

While it does sound silly, the information provided by the advisor is correct. The YA is a placeholder for Your Account once the session is logged off (since there is no name anymore to associate that Avatar icon with any specific initials).

This can also be “seen” if you open the Google Dev tools window in the Chrome browser and inspect the avatar element itself.

I hope that puts your mind at ease! Thanks again.

Let’s be clear. My mind has always been and will always be at ease. Now, let me ask you this, are you aware that you are responding to a former web designer; someone, who has designed wireframes mapping out what you are trying to prove. What you’re describing is impossible. Why didn’t I ever see it in my other shopify store? How can someone be asked to log out if already logged out? No system in the world no matter how faulty would do that. Post this discussion on twitter and see the response that you get.

Behind the scenes, we are discussing what is going on and it’s pointing in the same direction. It is irrefutable. We are documenting and taking notes to see what our next steps will be. No one has the right to deny another the right to make a living. We have proof of everything that I am writing here. For example, we took another video whilst YA was logged into our account and a Log Out option was available (can’t happen if one is already logged out.

What you have post doesn’t prove anything and is actually false and I can prove it.

I logged out. I still had the homepage open of the website that I have been trying to build. Note that I have lost three days where I couldn’t launch our website and we still haven’t launched because of this.

At the bottom right of the page was a Navigate to Admin button. Upon clicking this button it took me to the Admin of my site and I saw my company name without the GS initials. What this means is that even though, I had logged out, someone (YA most likely) was still logged in. Hence, why our company’s initials did not show because YA (and not anyone from here) was logged in. It is highly concerning that Shopify allows this. Oh, and I have videos of everything that I have described.

According to logical programmatic flow, an avatar will not provide a Log Out option if one is already logged out.

To prove what I have said above, I have included screen shots from I video that I took this evening when YA was logged into my store. If it is a placeholder as you say, why is there an option for my store on the page? How do you explain that if I was logged out?

This has cost our company going on four days down time and we are not happy about it. Why did Shopify choose to single our store out for this type of treatment?

You mention others in our situation, really? We don’t believe it. If you, link to their questions from this forum in this thread.

Give us the mailing address, emails and phone number for your upper management team and corporate office including the CTO. We want to follow up at the earliest. Whether you provide it or not, we will vigorously follow up on this matter. We were all set to use the SFM but will not as we do not have any confidence that our products will be in good hands at shopify.

Hi, @GTskn

Thank you for reaching out and expressing your concerns. As mentioned, this is expected behaviour for all accounts as the initials “YA” keeps a cookie of the session previously worked on. This session is not accessible unless you were to log in again, at which point the Avatar will show the correct initials of the staff that initiated a session.

As you stated you are a web developer, as such, we recommend checking the information provided via the dev tools in Google Chrome. You can then compare the element when logged in, vs when YA displays.
