A recent admin interface update moved the search bar behind a button, significantly disrupting user workflows.
Main complaints:
Adds unnecessary clicks and mouse travel distance (over 2900 pixels on 4K monitors)
Opening the search bar causes saved filters to disappear
Combined with other recent changes (apps hidden behind menus, no alphabetical sorting), the updates feel counterproductive
Impact:
Users report doubled or tripled task completion times
Workflow interruptions requiring workarounds like adjusting mouse cursor speed
Response:
Shopify staff acknowledged receiving “a good amount of feedback” about this update and confirmed they’ll pass concerns to the appropriate team. However, no commitment was made regarding potential changes or timeline.
Status: The issue remains unresolved, with multiple users expressing ongoing frustration and requesting a UI reversion.

The recent change to hide the search bar behind a button in admin is a HUGE step backwards. It’s frustrating to double or triple my time and interrupt the workflow that I’m used to.
On my 4k monitor, clicking a menu on the left then has me moving my mouse to the complete other end of the screen. That’s over 2900 pixels. Huge UI oversight. And for what benefit? None that I can tell.
I had to change my mouse cursor speed just to keep from pulling my hair out.
Furthermore, if I open the search bar, my saved filters disappear. WHAT?! What possible benefit does this serve?
I feel like my car had a software update overnight that now requires me to clap my hands twice before I could turn it on. What a waste of time and energy.
This and the recent decision to hide my apps behind a menu AND not allow me to sort alphabetically are extremely frustrating. Please fix this.
Hi there, @Tyler_Sasaki . Thank you for taking the time to leave this post here in the Shopify Community. My name is Imogen, it’s nice to meet you.
Thank you for the in-depth feedback you’ve provided us here regarding some of the recent updates in the admin, with a particular focus on the search functionality. We’ve received a good amount of feedback regarding this update, specifically mentioning how much time the button adds to the process within the admin. I’m happy to pass your feedback and this post to the appropriate team so they can be made aware of the sentiments you’ve shared with us here.
I’m unable to comment on what the result of your feedback here may be, but you can trust that the necessary folks will be seeing your feedback and considering the value a reversion may bring. The team will also be aware of the sort feedback regarding apps here, and your filter issue, as well.
Thanks again for your feedback, @Tyler_Sasaki . We’re sorry for any inconveniences this update has caused you and your workflow.
I just want to thank you for writing such a detailed and reasoned explanation of the problem. We’ve been frustrated with these extra clicks since the update (and we still comment about it pretty frequently). I’ve wanted to start a thread about the issue ever since the update but I couldn’t articulate it well, so I never did.
I’m not sure how I didn’t find this thread sooner but I’m glad I did. I only wish that I could give 2 thumbs up,and that @Shopify_77 would revert the UI.
