On my Google ads campaign page, the “Units sold” column is always blank, even though I am getting lots of conversions with my ads. What do I need to change in my Shopify code so that “Units sold” is passed on to Google with every conversion?
Topic summary
A user is experiencing an issue where the “Units sold” column in their Google Ads campaign remains blank despite receiving numerous conversions. The problem stems from incomplete conversion data being passed from Shopify to Google Ads.
Recommended solution involves four steps:
- Enable Enhanced Conversion Tracking in Google Ads (Tools & Settings > Measurement > Conversions)
- Update Shopify tracking code by adding Google Ads conversion tracking tag to checkout settings and using Google Tag Manager to capture transaction_id, value, items, and quantity data
- Verify event data using Google Tag Assistant or Google Ads Conversion Diagnostics to confirm purchase events include correct quantity and item details
- Sync product data through Shopify’s Google channel, ensuring all products have correct attributes including SKU and quantity
The issue appears solvable through proper configuration of the data layer and conversion tracking setup. No follow-up questions or confirmation of resolution has been posted yet.
Hi @PWS1
To ensure the “Units sold” column is populated in Google Ads, you need to properly configure your Shopify store to send the required conversion data to Google Ads. Follow these steps:
1-Enable Enhanced Conversion Tracking:
- Go to your Google Ads account.
- Navigate to Tools & Settings > Measurement > Conversions.
- Ensure that Enhanced Conversions is enabled and properly set up.
2-Update Shopify Code:
- Add the Google Ads conversion tracking tag to your Shopify checkout settings.
- Use Google Tag Manager to capture and pass transaction_id, value, and items for every conversion. Ensure the data layer includes the quantity of items sold.
3-Verify Event Data:
- Ensure the purchase event in Shopify includes the correct quantity and item details.
- Test using Google Tag Assistant or Google Ads Conversion Diagnostics to confirm data is being sent correctly.
4-Sync Product Data with Google Ads:
- In your Shopify Google channel, ensure all products are synced with correct attributes, including SKU and quantity.
By ensuring the tracking code and enhanced conversion settings are correct, the “Units sold” data will populate in your Google Ads campaign.
If you have other questions, feel free to ask, and I will answer them as well.
