Why is there no support for gift card recipients?

I am the recipient of a Gift Card so I am not a shopify user but why would there be no support for people receiving gift cards through your company? They have no way of knowing whose store the gift card came from. Only way I can get help with it is if I sign up for a free trail for my own shopify store? Why should I have to do that? I have a $500 gift card that I have no idea where it came from and when I went to use it, there was only $2.22 left on the card. I want to find out what happened and there are zero resources for me.
