Why isn't my abandoned cart updating on my ecommerce site?

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner reports that abandoned carts aren’t appearing in their admin dashboard, even after customers proceed through checkout steps without completing payment. This prevents them from tracking and recovering lost sales.

Troubleshooting steps suggested:

  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Navigate to Settings > Checkout to verify abandoned cart email settings are enabled
  • Check that “Automatically send abandoned checkout emails” is selected

Ongoing issues:

  • Multiple users report being unable to locate the “Abandoned Checkout” section in Settings > Checkout, despite support staff providing screenshots showing its location
  • One user confirms the setting has been missing for months
  • Standard troubleshooting (clearing cookies, incognito mode) hasn’t resolved the visibility issue

Current status: Unresolved. Support staff recommend contacting Shopify’s authenticated Support team through the Help Center for real-time account access and investigation, as the missing settings section suggests a potential account-specific configuration issue or bug.

Hello!

My Shopify is not updating the abandoned carts and that’s harming my business.

I have just tested reaching checkout and going through all steps until inserting payment details and my abandoned cart does not appear on the records.

Can someone help me?

Hi, @GabrielTamaki .

Thank you for reaching out.

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with abandoned carts not showing up in your Shopify admin. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Clear your browser cache and cookies: Sometimes, browser cache and cookies can affect the functioning of your Shopify store. Clearing them will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem.

  2. Check the abandoned cart recovery settings: Review your store’s abandoned cart recovery settings and make sure that they are enabled. Go to your Shopify dashboard, click on “Settings” and then click on “Checkout.” Scroll down to the “Abandoned checkouts” section, and ensure that the “Automatically send abandoned checkout emails” box is checked.

  3. Contact Shopify support: If the above steps don’t work, you can contact Shopify support for assistance. They should be able to help you diagnose and fix the issue.

Hey there, @PeteLoughlin ! Thanks for following up on this thread! My name is Imogen. It’s good to meet you!

I did a quick check of my own store’s ‘Settings > Checkout’ and was able to find the ‘Abandoned Checkout Emails’ section by scroll down the page a few times. I recommend doing a quick double-check of the area in ‘Settings > Checkout’ just to quickly confirm that you cannot indeed see this specific section. It sound be under the ‘address collection preferences’ section. From there, if you’re still unable to find the section, then I recommend reaching out to our Support Team via our Help Center so we can get you authenticated and access your store in real-time to see if we can replicate the absence of this section.

Hello, it still doesn’t show up in this area.

Hi there, @hasantuzemen .

Could you try clearing your cache and cookies, and refreshing your browser?

Hello Viktorya, I tried deleting all cookies and it failed. I opened it in an incognito tab and it failed. Attached is the full screen shot.
