I currently have the Highlight theme on Shopify, version 2.0.1. I was having trouble with the add to cart button disappearing and was instructed to revert any edits to the code back to default. After completely wiping my store and redoing everything, the button reappeared so I thought the problem was solved. However, upon testing my store I realized although the button had shown back up, it does not actually add anything to the cart. (I have not made any edits to the code whatsoever. The most I’ve done is add customizations to the theme). When I have my product and size selected, I press add to cart and it pulls up a side bar stating there are no items in my cart and only gives me the option to “continue browsing” please help!
Hi, @biruauthentic .
To rule out any local or browser caching issues, you can follow the troubleshooting steps below to begin with:
- Try to access your website and test the add to cart button via an incognito window
- Or, you can use your usual browser but to clear the browser’s cookies and cache before accessing your website
- You can also try another browser. For example, if you’re using Safari, you can try this on Chrome or Firefox
- You can also try to use another device, such as your mobile or a tablet
Are you also using a third-party app to control your store’s products or cart functionality? Or have you perhaps installed any third-party apps to your store recently?
If so, you can try to disable the app’s features if it’s available to do so within the app, to see if the issue will be fixed. You can also try and install a fresh copy of a Shopify theme by going to Online store > Themes > Explore free themes and select a theme to add to your library. From there, click on Actions > Preview, and you can then test your store’s cart button to see if it will allow you to successfully add a product to cart.
If the issues don’t persist on the fresh theme, a third-party app may be interfering with how your store’s cart is meant to function. Any newly added or third-party codes on your theme may also be the cause of this issue.
You also mentioned that you’re on Version 2.0.1 of the Highlight theme. I’ve just checked the theme listing for Highlight on the Shopify Theme Store, and under the Support and documentation tab it looks like the most recent version of this theme is Version 2.2.3. All themes purchased on our theme store allows you to update a new version for free, and any customizations made to your theme using the Theme Editor are copied over and applied to the updated theme. It’s important to keep your theme up to date, as theme developers release these updated versions to include bug fixes and new features, which you won’t have access to if you remain on an older version of your theme.
You can follow the steps on this document if you need a guide on updating your theme.
Let me know how you get on with the information above! In the mean time, if you’re still looking to work on your theme and to continue designing your store, I’ll leave some resources below for you to further help with this process:
