Why isn't my cart storing abandoned checkouts?

Hi> I just find out that when a customer abandoned a cart my Shopify isn’t storing that session. I created a dummy customer to test. I added some items to the cart and clicked checkout after that I closed the browser. Then went to my Shopify admin and didn’t find the abandoned cart that I left.> How can I verify if are something wrong with my Shopify?

Thanks!

Hi,** @Cocoaboutiquepr **!

To clarify, abandoned checkouts are created by Shopify once someone has added items to their cart, completed the customer information page and proceeds to the next page of checkout, but does not complete their transaction. The system will need the customer to enter their information so that store owners are able to send an abandoned checkout recovery email to the customer, in case they wish to proceed with their purchase. You can find more information about abandoned checkouts here.

It’s really good to see that you’re keeping track of your abandoned checkouts, as this is a good strategy to help improve conversions on your store. In the case that you’re still getting a few abandoned checkouts here and there, and would like to minimize this as much as possible, you can look into offering incentives through your abandoned checkout emails. Have a look at our Shopify Blog here for some great abandoned checkout email strategy tips!

Hi @Kimi_2 ,

Thanks for your response.
So if someone create an account then add some items to the cart but doesn’t click checkout button will no stored as abandoned checkout right?

Thanks

Nicolle

That’s correct, if a visitor to your store has created a customer account and input items on cart and leaves your store, their order won’t show up on your abandoned checkout list.

Their order will only be stored as an abandoned checkout when they fill out the customer information page on checkout and proceeds to the next page, then exits the page without completing their order.

Hi @Kimi_2 !

I am using this steps to create a checkout and redirect to payment step for users to complete the purchase, but we noticed that que abandoned checkouts are not stored and we complete in Storefront API the customer information.

You can see an example of our flow in https://vanite.cl/.

Hi, @tech_pinflag . Thanks for your reply.

Currently, our Shopify Support team aren’t equipped to support Shopify APIs and other developer products. So while I’d really love to help you with this one, development support questions like this will need to be posted within our Shopify APIs and SDKs forum board here so that other developers can help troubleshoot.

If you believe that a Shopify API isn’t functioning as intended though, our team can investigate the API to determine if the issue is a result of our API, or if there is something within our documentation that’s incorrect. Please note that this is only relevant if the issue you’re experiencing is a direct result of our API, and not how you’re using it. So if this is the case with your situation, please visit our Help Center here so that our live support team can gather the required information from you to escalate to the appropriate technical teams.
