Why isn't my date picker saving selected dates?

Hi Community

I have been trying to implement the date picker in to my theme.

I followed this guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/themes/customization/cart/add-date-picker-for-delivery-dates

getting the date picker to appear and selecting a date is fine, but once i go through the checkout process and place a successful order, the date has not been saved and i cannot see the date in any of the notification emails or when i check the orders.json.

Any help would be great
