I changed the name of my store and need to change my Favicon. I have uploaded and saved it many times in different formats and it still won’t show up. Is there a specific format I should be be using? Does anyone have suggestions? Oh and I’m not good with code, but I do know how to copy it if I’m told exactly where to put it. Lol. I found a post form 2019 with code and when I checked, mine looks similar but not exact. I didn’t want to change anything because code has probably changed in the last 2 years.
Hey, @RitaABlack .
Elias here with Shopify Support. I’d be happy to lend a hand with this!
There isn’t a specific file type requirement for adding a favicon to your store on Shopify, as this works with all image types (eg. PNG, JPG, JPEG, ICO). However, there is a size restriction of 16x16 or 32x32 and our system will automatically downsize to 32x32 if you upload anything larger than that. It’s also important to note that the favicon will only appear for your online store and not for your admin. That being said, I did also find a third-party article, What are favicon best practices regarding size and format, which recommends using the ICO file type for favicons.
If you’re still running into issues with uploading the favicon, then it’s possible that this issue is theme related. To help identify if this is caused by your theme, I’d recommend installing one of our free themes and trying your favicon there. Once we’ve identified the cause of the issue, we’ll be able to point you in the right direction to get further support for your theme.
Which theme are you currently using for your store?
