Why can’t my store accept payments?

There are several possible reasons as to why your store may be unable to accept payments so let’s troubleshoot them together.

Firstly, are you receiving an error when trying to checkout or are you seeing any red banners in your Shopify Admin? The most common reason is account verification. When you’re going through a Shopify Payments account verification you’re usually notified about this via email or a banner on your admin homepage, and you may be advised to submit documentation to complete it. Please check whether you have relevant notifications and feel free to submit any requirements.

It’s also possible that your payment gateway may be in test mode. Which payment provider are you using? If you’re using Shopify Payments, can you please go to Settings > Payment Providers > Manage from your admin? If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you’ll see an option to disable test mode.
