So my domain that I bought through shopify does not work. I cant use it as a URL link to the website so therefore it wont work also on social media sites. any thoughts?

When did you purchase the domain? It can take up to 48 hours for your new domain to start working. When you go to Online Store > Domains in the admin, you might still see SSL pending beside the domain you purchased, indicating that it is still in the process of connecting.
If it has been more than 48 hours, please let me know what you see under Online Store > Domains, as well as any specific error message you see when trying to visit the URL.
