Hi, I have created a shopify store and added USPS as shipping service. I have checked “first class package” and “priority mail” for customers but in my test order, I am only getting the option “priority mail” and not the other one. Why is that so? Please help out.
Hey, @crossword !
This is Summer from the Social Care team at Shopify. Thanks for your question!
I understand only one of the USPS shipping services you have enabled in your shipping settings is appearing in your checkout. The services that shipping carriers offer have different requirements and specifications for the packages they ship. Because “First-Class Package” is not appearing as an option, it is likely that the characteristics of your package don’t fit the requirements of this shipping service.
I don’t have the expertise to go into detail about the requirements of the USPS shipping services, however, USPS shares helpful information about these on their website which you can access on this page. Information on services of other shipping carriers, such as DHL and UPS, are also found on their respective websites. It’s important to note the packaging, weight, and shipping destination requirements.
For you to find out if your package complies with the requirements of the shipping service you want to offer, you may check the package characteristics in your Shopify admin by following the steps below.
Packaging1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
- Scroll down to the Packages section and check which package is set as the default package.
- Take note of the dimensions, weight, and package type.
Weight and shipping destination1. In your Shopify admin, go to Orders.
- Click the order number of the order you want to ship.
- Click Create shipping label.
- Take note of the Total weight under the Package and weight section, and the address under the Shipping address section.
You can compare these details with the requirements of the shipping service you’re looking at. The package needs to qualify for the shipping service for it to appear as an option at checkout. For further clarification, you may contact the USPS support team or the other couriers, like DHL or UPS, through their website.
It’s great that you’ve decided to charge exact shipping costs! While this can be a good way to ensure you don’t lose on shipping and you stay profitable, it may not attract as many conversions as when you offer a more enticing shipping strategy. Since you’re working on your shipping setup, this is the perfect time to take a closer look into your strategy. We have a guide that discusses different shipping tactics you can use to increase conversions. Feel free to go over it on this page and find out if your current setup is the best strategy for making sales.
Same here. We are not seeing any shipping options, for first class or parcel at our checkout. All weight on our products are correctly weighed and have been so for years. Our Shirts are weighed at 12oz and when added to the cart for testing, the only options that are available, are Priority mail and Priority Express, for a 12oz shirt. We have reached out to Shopify on this and they couldn’t figure out how are why this is happening. We overlooked the USPS rates on their website and 12oz to zone 4 should be $6.35. We had a recent order by a customer who bought a 4XL Shirt, weighed at 12 oz and he paid $7.60 (Priority Mail). Since no first class was an option, the customer choose to pay priority. This is very misleading to customers, and I can imagine how many people who added items to their cart and probably end up discouraged because of the shipping cost, for one single item. We will make some adjustments and probably offer free shipping to avoid missing sales for now. We are still on standby with Shopify and hope this gets sorted out ASAP. Below is the most recent prices from zone 1-9. I understand with the most recent change to USPS Ground Advantage. Not sure if this is the overall reason.
