Why isn't the Product Reviews app functioning properly on Shopify?

Shopify’s product reviews app doesn’t work meaning you can’t download and save the reviews on the site, you can’t import reviews or do anything with them. Many people have commented in the review section with no apparent solution.

The app keeps showing the 404 page with “Product Reviews needs access to cookies”, which fails.

But it gets worse…

Other users have complained that the Schema.org data snippets are not provided correct in the app, and this causes a mix of incomplete schema data which leads to “warnings” with Google Shopping and Search Console. When they uninstalled this app from the shop to give another app a try, it wiped all the metafields data, not just the reviews meta data, but also other data, which has nothing to do with reviews, plus it wiped the Google Shopping feed data (Categories, Codes, Prices per kg/l). This will cause big problems with Google ads, meaning you pay for ads leading to nothing.

Shopify needs to fix this ASAPS if the app is damaging Google ad categories and metadata.

I don’t expect a resolution soon from Shopify, as usual… they really should improve the poor business practices they have in development and coding work. It turns into very expensive mistakes for users and shop owners to deal with.

This is not a solution to fix your current issues, but what most my clients do, or I instruct them to do to ensure they can grow there business.

  1. Self hosted reviews, which the shopify review app is, will not get imported to Google, unless you have a very high domain authority. Therefor, it is recommended that you use a review platform that is currently verified by Google, below two lists:

Product ratings: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7045996#list_of_aggregators

Seller ratings:https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/190657?hl=en

The missing attributes, is strange, I have never heard of this before. However, for my clients I use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds

Which has worked perfectly for as long as I have been using it.

All attributes can be mapped and custimized.

Again, I know this is not a solution to the free things you are currently using, I just want to give you an alternative if you want to resolve this fast.
