My domain is registered with Squarespace. I was able to change DNS settings there and get it to connect to shopify. In shopify it wants the domain without the www so now laurenbellart.com will work and my site is there but www.laurenbellart.com fails to load. How should I go about fixing this? I’m going to transfer my domain to shopify but want to get this straightened out first.
Topic summary
www.laurenbellart.com is not loading after a DNS change that successfully connected laurenbellart.com to Shopify. The root domain works, but the www version fails, which is a problem before a planned transfer of the domain from Squarespace to Shopify.
Key development:
- A suggested fix was to change the primary domain in Shopify under Online Store > Domains and choose either the www or non-www version.
- The latest update is that this option does not appear available. The only selectable domain is the default Shopify-provided URL.
- When trying to add the www version manually, Shopify shows a “Missing CNAME” error. A CNAME is a DNS record used to point one hostname, such as www, to another service.
Current status:
- The issue remains unresolved.
- The likely open question is whether the www subdomain’s CNAME record is missing or incorrectly configured in Squarespace DNS.
If you click the admin panel > Sales Channels > Online Store > Domains > Change primary domain, you can pick whether it has www or not.
You can check how to go about the process here Making your third-party domain your Shopify URL · Shopify Help Center
There’s no option for that. I can only change it to the domain shopify gives me. If I try to add a new one with www it doesn’t work. Missing CNAME error comes up.
