When the Country/Region selector in the Header is clicked, it displays all the countries with their unique currencies, for instance, Switzerland CHF, Hungary HUF. But in my Markets settings, I only set up a few regions with their currencies that don’t include CHF or HUF. Why there are currencies that are not set in my Markets, displayed in the Country/Region selector in the Header or Footer section. By the way I’m using a free Shopify 2.0 theme.
Why there are currencies that are not in my Markets setting displayed in the COUNTRY/REGION SELECTOR
Topic summary
- Main issue: The Country/Region selector in the header/footer shows countries and currencies (e.g., Switzerland CHF, Hungary HUF) that weren’t enabled in the store’s Shopify Markets settings.
- Context: Store is using a free Shopify 2.0 theme; only a few regions/currencies were configured in Markets.
- Clarification: A participant offered to review the store via DM and asked if CHF and HUF were specifically unenabled.
- Update/Resolution: The original poster determined this is expected Shopify behavior—the selector displays a broad set of countries/regions, even when multiple entries share the same currency (e.g., Euro), rather than limiting to the configured Markets.
- Definitions: Shopify Markets settings = merchant-defined regions and currencies; Country/Region selector = customer-facing locale/currency switcher in the theme.
- Outcome: No changes needed; the poster closed the issue.
- Status: Resolved; no outstanding questions or actions.
If you can DM me your store I would be happy to take a look into this for you. Is it CHF and HUF that you are concerned about specifically that you haven’t enabled?
Thank you for your kindness, I’ve realized this is just a feature of Shopify. Instead of showing just a few currencies, such as Dollar, Euro, Pound. It displays a whole spectrum of countries even though they may all use the same currency, for instance, Euro. I’ll enclose this issue. Thank you for your kindness anyway
