We can’t get our discount codes to activate automatically from the marketing email sent out, I have set up the ‘apply discount’ button in the email but it doesn’t show the discount automatically when at the checkout portion, you have to add the code manually for it to work. Pretty sure I’m loosing sales here because all the customer is seeing is the normal price then backing out of the purchase.
You’ll need to make sure the discount code you created is automatic, which means the customers will see it automatically applied in the cart and at checkout.
To do this from your email campaign section, click on the Discount Value section and click “Select a discount” to the right. Here you will be prompted to create a new discount. Clicking that link will take you to the discount creation screen where you can go ahead and make your discount code, being sure to have the “automatic discount” button checked.
Hi Ren, I have set up a discount code on a product and it works great, the only problem is you need to add the code at checkout, normally that’s how it’s done I know but in my marketing email there is a button which says apply discount, according to my Shopify email marketing system it should automatically add the code at checkout for the customer, my button does not do that??
I ran a handful of different tests on my store and was able to successfully apply the discount automatically to my cart by clicking “apply now”. Unfortunately, without being able to access your store it’s hard to say for sure why the initial campaign button/link didn’t work for you.
At this point, I recommend creating a new campaign and following these steps:
Create the discount code separate from your Marketing section just within the admin from the Discount tab located under your Marketing tab.
Use the Method “discount code” instead of “automatic discount”. Then complete the remaining fields as you wish, making sure it is being applied to either a specific Collection or specific Product, then save and set the code to “Active”.
Head back into your Marketing tab, find or create your campaign and select “edit activity”. From here, when you click on the Discount section, you should be able to add in the code you just created.
I highly recommend utilizing the “Send Test” button as this will send a test copy of your campaign to your inbox and allow you to make sure all links are working as expected.
Unfortunately, you cannot edit a campaign that’s already been shipped out. However, you may be able to workaround this by simply adding an automatic discount to all customer carts for the duration of this specific campaign.
You also have the option to send out the fixed campaign again with an apology note and maybe a slightly higher discount as an incentive for the inconvenience.
Let me know if I can clarify any of the above for you! Best of luck.
