We have a new Shopify POS Go and it will not connect to our business WiFi, it works fine on home WiFi, it displays unknown error and nothing else. All other devices work fine on the WiFi and the particular SSID I am connecting it to has a any any outbound rule on the permitter gateway. The business WiFi is WPA2 enabled, Cisco Aironet 1815i and there are plenty of addresses in the DHCP pool, anyone had any similar issue or even a resolution?
Topic summary
POS Go units intermittently fail to connect to certain business Wi‑Fi networks, showing only an “unknown error,” while connecting fine to home Wi‑Fi.
Reported network context: WPA2 security on a Cisco Aironet 1815i access point, ample DHCP addresses, and an SSID allowed by an any‑any outbound rule on the perimeter gateway. Other devices connect normally, suggesting a device‑specific or compatibility issue rather than general network failure.
Multiple users confirm similar behavior, especially at events, with inconsistent connections. A common workaround is tethering to a personal phone hotspot. One user notes their smaller, less expensive card reader is more reliable than the POS Go.
Staff guidance: contact Shopify Support for troubleshooting and potential escalation to the retail team. No concrete fix or root cause is provided in the thread.
Status: unresolved/ongoing. Key terms: WPA2 (Wi‑Fi security standard), SSID (network name), DHCP (automatic IP addressing).
Hi had the same issue. Not sure why, did you figure it out?
Ugh! Frustrating to say the least. It happens throughout events for me. Sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn’t. I connect to my personal phone hotspot. My smaller and less expensive card reader was more reliable. I am really regretting getting this expensive one.
Hi, @SteveHatXp and @jjpantin1 .
