Why won't my new theme load on my online store?

Hello,

I recently finished setting up my Shopify store, and when I published my new theme the page won’t load. I can edit the store perfectly from the Shopify admin, but can’t load the store from anywhere else. When I try to load my store volancio.com the error comes up

This site can’t be reached

Check if there is a typo in volancio.com.

  • If spelling is correct, try running Windows Network Diagnostics.

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey, @Volancio ! Welcome to Shopify Community!

I’m sorry to hear you’re encountering an issue with accessing your website. From the error message you’ve shared, we can tell that it’s an issue involving your domain.

The first thing to check if a domain is not working properly is its settings. In order for it to work and be successfully connected to your store, a domain should have the following DNS records:

  • A record:
    • name: @
    • value: 23.227.38.65
  • CNAME record:
    • name: www
    • value: shops.myshopify.com

If you bought your domain through your admin and it’s hosted by Shopify, you can access your domain’s DNS settings in your Shopify admin to ensure those records are present. Feel free to follow the steps below to do so.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to configure.
  3. Click Domain settings > Edit DNS settings.
  4. You can:
    • Add a record: click Add custom record, and then select the record type that you want to add. Enter the required details for the record, and then click Confirm.
    • Edit a record: click Actions > Edit for the record that you want to change. Edit the details for the record, and then click Confirm.

Alternatively, if your domain doesn’t have or need additional DNS records, you can reset the DNS settings for your domain. Doing this will delete all your DNS records except the A record and CNAME record, which are reset to point to Shopify. If you wish to reset your DNS settings you can refer to the following guide.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click the domain that you want to configure.
  3. Click Domain settings > Edit DNS settings.
  4. In the Advanced settings section, click Reset DNS settings.
  5. Click Confirm.

Domains take up to 48 hours to propagate so your domain may still present issues within that time frame. If the domain still doesn’t work properly after 48 hours, please create a support ticket by visiting https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V so we can take a look at your domain and help you fix it.

If you have a third-party domain, please contact your domain provider for assistance in ensuring you have the required DNS records.

While you work to fix your domain and launch your store, don’t forget to test your website and ensure you have everything necessary set up before you start taking orders. We have a handy launch checklist that will help you do this. You can refer to it to equip your store for a successful opening day!

Thank you so much! Reset the DNS settings, so hopefully, the store should be working within the next 48 hours. If the store doesn’t work within 48 hours I’ll make sure to contact support and create a ticket. Thanks again… 10/10 customer support!

That was a good call, @Volancio ! I see the domain is working now. The website looks great!

Thanks for the kind feedback. Don’t hesitate to create a new topic if you need help with anything else!
