I believe it is a bug on Shopify. Please have a look at the screenshots. I partially removed and refunded one of the items ordered by my customer, and then fulfilled the rest of them, actually the order. And then the annoying dot next to the section Orders will never go away while all of the orders are marked as fulfilled already. Any solution?
Hi @HubertCheung ,
Nick here from Shopify.
This dot is actually part of the admin in the order section. When the dot is filled up, it means the order has been completed and fulfilled, but if it’s half full or not filled in, it means the order is still yet to be completed.
I took a look at my test store to show you how it looks there with some other examples. Here, I have a partially fulfilled order where the dot is half-filled and a pending order so the dot is not filled in at all. It is also highlighted as red as it is pending.
This is part of the admin for every single Shopify store and can’t be changed/removed. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any others about this!
All the best, Nick
Thank you for your reply. I know why this issue happened. What I was trying to say is the orders are all fulfilled and coloured in grey (as you can see on my screenshot), except for one order which was partially refunded as the customer required, so it’s not supposed to have the tiny 1 notification dot next to the Orders section.
Ahhh I get what you mean. I see the dot with the 1 notification you are referring to. It’s difficult to know exactly why that is still there without looking at the order (I’m guessing it has something to do with the partial refund) but it is to do with the order not being fully completed or closed out. Is it still showing for you now?
It is still here because Shopify takes the “Partially refunded” as
unfinished.

Any solution? Or is it a bug?
Hi @HubertCheung ,
This is definitely because of the partially refunded order still being active and not a bug. Partially refunded orders will default to display the order as “active” on the Orders view. A workaround I recommend is manually archiving the orders or setting up filters in saved searches such as only showing “paid” and “unfulfilled”.
You can see how to archive an order from the screenshot below of the example I made on my test store:
Can you try this and let me know if it works for you, please?
It disappeared after I archived the order.
I am guessing Shopify would automatically archive fully fulfilled orders and refunded orders rather than partially refunded or fulfilled orders to keep the store owner notified in case the orders are missed out.
Thank you for your help!
That is exactly it @HubertCheung !
Thanks for the update and for letting me know it worked. ![]()
