Will changing my store location from UK to France affect its performance?

Topic summary

A store owner wants to change their Shopify store location from UK to France to enable Stripe payments. Their primary markets are the USA and UK, and they’re concerned about potential negative impacts on their recently launched store with 100-150 products.

Key responses:

  • One suggestion is creating a new store and migrating products via CSV export/import
  • Store location can be updated via Settings > Store details > Address
  • Important warning: Store location should reflect where the owner physically resides. Payment gateways require documentation (government ID, utility bills) to verify residence. Setting an incorrect location could lead to payment gateway rejection
  • An alternative solution was proposed: using a third-party integration to enable Stripe without changing store location

Status: The discussion remains open with no clear resolution on whether the owner will proceed with the location change or explore alternatives.

I want to change my store location from the UK to France to enable Stripe on my store

Does this change have a negative impact on my store?

Currently, we launched our store just a few weeks ago, and our main market is USA and UK

It’s ok or you can create a new store.

We have almost 100 to 150 products so it’s fine?

You can export products and quantity to CSV files and import to new store.

Can I just update the current store location only without affecting my store?

You can try to do that from store admin > Settings > Store details > Address

Hi there, @zack100 .

Your store’s location should be where the store owner is physically located. Many payment gateways will require documentation to prove residence such as government ID and utility bills etc. Selecting a country the Account Owner is not physically located in could result in these documents being requested, and possibly lead to the Payment gateway rejecting your store upon not receiving the correct documentation.

You mentioned you have recently launched your store - congratulations! Being at the start of your online store journey is a very exciting time! I’d love to share some resources with you to help get you off to a great start. Here are some of my favorites:
