Will importing a duplicate customer list with blank cells overwrite existing customer data?

I have a list of contacts, some of which are duplicates of existing customers.

The list (I want to import) does not have information such as address or phone numbers.

If I import this list and choose: Overwrite existing customers that have the same email or phone

Will the address and other information that is CURRENTLY populated be overwritten with blank/null? I feel like if I make a mistake that’s data I can’t get back.

In case I’m not clear:

Current record is: Jane Doe, jane@doe.com, (123) 456-7899, 123 fake st, Boston, MA 02139, tagged happy customer

After import I want: Jane Doe, jane@doe.com, (123) 456-7899, 123 fake st. Boston, MA 02169 tagged happy customer, company Best Ever, note would like to keep, etc…

Afraid I’ll get this instead: Jane Doe, jane@doe.com, company Best Ever, note would like to keep, etc…

If you choose to overwrite then the customer card will be replaced with what is on file so if some columns are missing that data won’t appear anymore.

You can probably overcome this by exporting your current customers to csv (gives you a backup) > adding the new data > importing back and overwriting. Test it out on a couple of customers first.
