Hey,

Can we expect Shopify native Privacy & Compliance App to become compatible with Google Consent Mode V2?

Or is the use of a dedicated 3rd party App become mandatory ?

Thank you,

Axel

It is taking a long time for Shopify to implement V2. Google kind of demands it now. Should be a standard option in my view.

Shopify Support:
The default Shopify Cookie banner should be sufficient for implementing the Google Consent Mode V2. Merchants can use the default banner without needing to use a different one.
What you need to do is to update the script you are using
Documentation

but how do i link the cookie banner from Shopify to GTM?

as GTM doesn’t detect the click on the “Accept” cookies and my consent remains default - denied. can you please tell me what i am missing?

I have to apologize - I received an update from Support:

To start, I can acknowledge that Shopify does not yet support Google Consent Mode v2 for Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics integrations. We are unable to state if and when Shopify will include support for Google Consent Mode v2, however rest assured that our silence on this topic does not mean that we are not going to support it in the future. Shopify and Google have worked together on a lot of projects already, so I am sure that there will be a solution in due time.

For the time being, I have submitted a feature request to our developers to let them know that you would like to see support for Google Consent Mode v2 as soon as possible. The more feedback we submit the more accurately we can track the demands of our merchants and prioritize improvements to our platform.

Thanks for the answer. Since we are talking about feature request, another requirement for me to use it is the ability to hide the decline button on the banner. To have only accept all and preference button.

Hope this will come soon. 3rd party cookie software like Cookiebot has since a couple of days completely crippled my analytics and my meta pixel stopped working. An absolute nightmare with no solutions online and Shopify support unable to provide any useful information.

I have used app Pandectes today because I don´t want to get into any issues, but it is paid… I hope it will be enough for now, but I would love to see Shopify to add this feature to native background as well…Nina

At the end I used a free App Consentmo GDPR - there is just a very simple thing that has to be added in to the code.

Hi all,
The last update about this topic i got from shopify is the following:
“Our developers are currently in the final stages of integrating Google Consent Mode V2 into Shopify. However, we cannot guarantee when this is expected to roll out. Please be assured that our team is committed to implementing this feature as swiftly as possible. We understand its importance and are working diligently to bring this to you soon. Hi, if you want to hide the Decline button for some reason, you can use custom CSS to hide it
#shopify-pc__banner__btn-decline {
display: none !important;
}

You can add this CSS code to your theme’s CSS file or through the Shopify theme editor. This will hide the “DECLINE” button from the cookie banner, leaving only the “ACCEPT” and “MANAGE PREFERENCES” buttons visible to the users.

Thats a great Idea. Thanks z4yd4!
