Wishlist and Quote Apps

Topic summary

A client needs functionality where users can create wishlists and then request quotes for those items. The question is whether this can be achieved with or without custom development.

Proposed Solutions:

  • This is essentially an RFP/RFQ (Request for Proposal/Quote) app with wishlist-style UI elements
  • Two-app approach: Find both a wishlist app and quote app with APIs, then build a custom connector (requires finding apps with compatible frontend or backend APIs)
  • Custom build using Shopify’s order form customizations and Mechanic automation app to generate draft orders
  • Consider Shopify’s native B2B features and draft order approval processes
  • Alternative: Use contact form customizations or Shopify Forms app

Key Technical Note:
Apps are necessary for data persistence with logged-in customers, as Shopify’s theme system lacks native storage for arbitrary customer data.

Vendor Response:
One wishlist app provider (Fish Wishlist) indicated they’re rolling out this exact quote-from-wishlist feature and offered to discuss specific requirements, including whether Shopify B2B or Draft Orders are needed.

Hi there - we’re working with a client that would like to integrate a Wishlist with a Quote app, whereby the user would create and save wishlists, and then have the ability to push the items in the wishlist to receive a quote.

Has anyone ever done something similar with/without dev work? Thanks in advance. Dom

Hi @leclaires :waving_hand: That’s just an RFP/RFQP, request for proposal , app by another name with style changes to show a heart/bookmark ,etc.

Or with two apps you’d have to dig to find both a wishlist app with an api AND and quote app both with an api THEN build custom connector if they have frontend apis ,or backend middleware if they have backend apis only.

:warning: Apps are needed for data persistence for logged-in customers, the online-sales channel theme system has no native way to store arbitrary data per guest or even per logged-in customer in practice. Otherwise your just relying on cookies/localstorage etc.

To roll your own RFP see order form customizations, and the mechanic automation app to generate draft orders etc

Also see contact form customizations, or the shopify forms app.

If the clients on shopifyPlus see the B2B features and draft orders for a submit-for-approval process

If you need this type of feature customized then contact me by my email for services.

Hi @leclaires not sure if you are still interested in this, but our wishlist app is about to roll out this exact function. I’d love to hear your exact requirements (eg. do you want to submit the quote as a Draft Order in Shopify? Are you using Shopify B2B?). Please reach out if you’d like to discuss. https://apps.shopify.com/fish-wishlist
