I’ve seen “pack an order with me” videos work well on social media, but I’m curious about the more personalised version: sending a customer a short video of their own order being packed.
Would this feel valuable to customers, or is it too much work / too gimmicky?
For merchants who already do packing content, what would you want such a video to include?
It’s not gimmicky for the right store, but it absolutely is for the wrong one, and the deciding factor is your product and your volume. For high value, handmade, fragile or gift items (jewelry, candles, art, anything where care and “did it arrive right” matters), a short personal clip genuinely builds trust and people love sharing it. For low cost, high volume commodity stuff, nobody’s filming 200 orders a day and the customer doesn’t care that a phone case got bubble wrapped, so it just becomes a chore that fizzles out fast.
The real value isn’t the video itself, it’s the reassurance and the shareability, so it only pays off for the niches where those two things genuinely matter.
This is a really interesting idea, and it can definitely add a personal touch that sets your brand apart.
Whether it is worth the effort depends entirely on what you sell. If you are in a niche like high-end collectibles, K-pop merch, custom-designed decor, or any expensive stuffs, these videos are incredibly valuable. Customers for these items are often worried about safe shipping or defects, so seeing their specific order being handled with care builds massive trust and acts as proof of condition before it leaves your shop.
Many successful brands are also building entire social media channels around this using ASMR or very aesthetic color palettes. These videos are very viral and make your store look extremely reliable to potential buyers who are still on the fence. It turns a boring logistics step into a beautiful brand moment.
However, if you sell low-cost, mass-produced items in high volume, sending a personal video to everyone is likely a massive time-sink with very little return. For those types of products, a better approach is to just film a “vlog-style” video of your general daily packing routine for social media. This still gives people that “behind the scenes” feeling without slowing down your fulfillment process.
I think this could work really well, but only if it’s used selectively.
If every order gets a video, it may become too much work and the quality may drop. But for gift orders, handmade products, custom items, or higher-value purchases, a short personal packing video can make the customer feel like their order was handled with extra care.
So I wouldn’t treat it as a gimmick. I’d treat it as a retention/trust touchpoint for the right orders.
Hello, @RomainPackclip
Hope you are dong great!
I think it would be a great customer experience for small businesses , especially if you are selling handmade or premium product.
Hi, for high-value, handmade, or gift items, personalized packing videos build trust and feel special.
For low-cost, high-volume products, it’s too time-consuming and less effective. Use it selectively for premium orders or gifts to add a personal touch without overloading your process.
I agree it is not for every shop or every product. What I’m trying to understand is where the hesitation comes from.
For shops already doing “pack an order with me” videos, gift shops, handmade products, or higher-value items, I would have expected a personalised packing video to at least be interesting as an option.
Is the main concern:
customers would not care enough?
it would feel too gimmicky?
privacy / showing labels or addresses?
extra time during fulfilment?
not wanting to send yet another email after purchase?
hard to know if it would actually lead to repeat orders or shares?
I’m asking because the idea sounds useful, but the lack of interest from merchants is probably telling something. I’d be interested to hear what would make this feel valuable, or what makes it a clear “no”.
