Would you use personalised packing videos to delight your customers?

Topic summary

A developer and former online shop owner is building PackClip, a browser-based tool that automates personalized packing videos for e-commerce orders.

Core functionality:

  • Records video during order packing directly in browser
  • Automatically adds branded intro/outro and blurs shipping labels for privacy
  • Sends customers a branded email with their video and social sharing buttons

The creator demonstrates the process requires just two button presses beyond normal packing workflow, shown via GIF demonstration.

Community feedback highlights:

  • Automation is seen as the most valuable feature—manual editing would be too time-intensive
  • Potential concerns include workflow disruption during peak seasons (like Black Friday/Cyber Monday)
  • Recognized value for building trust, humanizing brands, and generating organic social content

Open questions:

  • Whether two additional clicks creates acceptable overhead for small shop owners
  • How to integrate without disrupting existing fulfillment workflows (label printing, tracking numbers, etc.)

The discussion remains exploratory, seeking validation on usefulness and identifying potential adoption barriers.

Hi everyone,

I’m Romain. I’m a software engineer and former online shop owner, and I’m building a tool called PackClip that helps shops create personalised packing videos for their orders.

When I ran my own shop, I noticed customers loved behind-the-scenes content. It builds trust, creates a more personal connection, and often ends up shared on social media. That sparked the idea of making these videos easier and more automated for small shops.

The tool (still work-in-progress) would:

  • Record a short video while you pack an order (all in the browser).

  • Automatically edit the clip with intro/outro + blur shipping labels for privacy.

  • The customer gets a branded email with their video and simple buttons to share it on social media.

My questions for you:

  • Would something like this be useful for your shop?

  • Which part feels most valuable (recording, automation, social-sharing)?

  • What would stop you from trying it?

If you’d like to see more detail, I made a short progress video (fair warning: I’m a developer, not a YouTuber ): Personalised Packing Videos for your Online Shop

That’s a really creative idea. I’ve noticed customers love little “behind the scenes” touches because it makes the brand feel more human. A short packing video could definitely build trust, especially for small shops that want to stand out.

For me, automation would be the most valuable part. Recording and editing each video manually would be too much work, but if the tool can handle intro/outro and blur labels automatically, I can see it being realistic to use.

The only thing that might stop me is time and consistency. If it slows down order fulfillment or adds extra steps during busy seasons like BFCM, it could be tricky. But as a way to delight loyal customers or create content for social media, I think it has a lot of potential.

I totally agree - if the process adds friction or slows things down, people won’t want to use it.

Also, I just realised I messed up the link in my first post :see_no_evil_monkey: The correct one is: Personalised Packing Videos for your Online Shop

That’s why I’ve been trying to keep it as simple as possible. In the demo bit on the YouTube video (with the correct link), it’s literally just two button presses on top of packing the order as you normally would.

Here’s a shortened preview of what you get from those 2 additional button clicks:

Do you think that’s still too much overhead for small shop owners?

One of my concerns is integration - I don’t want people to have to change their entire workflow (printing labels, adding tracking numbers, etc.) just to use this.
