I am an art photographer and sell limited edition fine art prints of my work. My subjects are mostly floral still life and equine work.

I set up my Shopify site over a year ago but have not done much to promote it so traffic is next to zero. I want v to change that.

What are your tips and what tactics should I prioritise to begin building my traffic organically.

Or should I throw $$ at the issue to gain traction. I’m worried that building traffic organically is require too much time and effort. My time is limited and I’m a solo operator.

thank you in advance.

Given your limited time, consider investing in Google Merchant Center and Google Shopping ads, as your product is visual. Ensure your product titles and descriptions use relevant keywords so Google knows what searches to show your artwork for. If you choose the organic route, focus on art communities online. Consider traditional art selling methods like galleries and shows to build relationships. Get creative on social media by showing your process and personality. Remember that the art market online is highly competitive. For our full response, check out the recording of the stream. We answer your question at around 00;51;29:

Hi Guys - thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I have actioned it as follows:

  • Optimised my product titles, descriptions and meta descriptions using Google Merchant Center
  • Created shopping ads referencing the products in Google Merchant Center

This is all I have had time for so far and I have done it for just a few products. While it is yet too early to report results on this, going through the steps has given me a good overview and workflow that I can follow and apply to my entire product catalogue (which is not that large anyway).

I wanted to clarify what you mean by online art communities (sorry if this is a silly question), I have a profile on Saatchi Art and have listed some of my products on that but probably need to get a bit more active on it. Saatchi is more like an eCommerce Market Place for art. Is this what you mean by art community?

Also I have previously tried advertising on Pinterest but without any success. That said I feel that the audience on that platform could be right for me. My target buyers include art collectors, interior designers and people who are (re)decorating their home or who may have or are looking to buy holiday homes.

Also just to clarify I do do offline activities such as group exhibitions, art fairs and in July I will have my first solo showing in Sydney. I also work with partners who resell some of my art in high end interior stores (some of that is white label though so not that helpful for my branding).

Thank you again. I do appreciate your generous input and will take advantage of future AMAs.
