You're getting reviews you don't know about (and Shopify won't let you opt out)

Your products + pricing are live on Shopify’s Shop, even if you don’t have any of your products live on the Shop channel and even if you uninstall the Shop channel. If you sell products online, your products are live on Shopify’s Shop regardless of your settings – this is well documented: Our products live on Shop channel even though we've uninstalled channel and no products set to be live on it - #3 by Maximus3

AND SO…since your products are live on Shopify Shop whether you want them there or not (and despite the optional Shop settings which are totally meaningless), your products are getting reviews that Shopify won’t let you opt out of: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/shop/product-reviews/manage

Hey @ooe518
Remove Shop channel eligibility from all products

Go to:
Shopify Admin → Products

For each product:

Open product
Scroll to Sales channels and apps
Click Manage
Ensure Shop is unchecked
Save

This is the most important step.

  1. Check bulk product availability

Go to:
Shopify Admin → Products → Bulk edit

Add column: Sales channels
Remove Shop from all products
Save changes
3. Verify Shop sales channel status

Go to:
Settings → Apps and sales channels → Shop

If installed → uninstall Shop channel
If already removed → proceed to next step

Removing the channel does not instantly remove cached listings.

  1. Wait for Shopify indexing update

Shop system is not real-time.

Typical update time: 24–72 hours
In some cases: up to several days

During this time, products may still appear.

  1. If products still appear in Shop app

This means:Products were previously indexed by Shopify Shop system
They may still appear due to Shopify’s cached indexing

At this point: Contact Shopify Support
Request escalation to Shop / Merchant Trust team
Ask for manual removal from Shop catalog index

  1. Important limitation

You cannot directly disable Shop product reviews.
Reviews are tied to Shop visibility.
The only control is removing Shop eligibility and requesting index removal.

Thank You !

Thanks, @Wsp! We’ve read your #1-6.

Yeah…we’ve done all five steps you pasted ( Your products + pricing is live on SHOP regardless of your settings ) before posting this–which took a TON of time and is still doesn’t work. We found the vast majority of Shopify support reps have the wrong info because many of them told us that getting off SHOP was impossible. It took days and days of attempts to get to anybody at shopify who even knew anything about this…and as we type now, even after shopify told us our products would be removed form SHOP within 24 hours, it’s been almost 96 hours and products are still live on SHOP. But we digress! This post isn’t about how to get your products off SHOP, and your #6 is just a summary of what we wrote in our original post.

Hope reiterating will drive home the message of our post: shopify merchants are being led to believe they have control over where their products are for sale, but that is not the case…because shopify publishes products on SHOP regardless of (inspite of, actually) merchants’ SHOP settings…and because products are live on SHOP undoubtedly without merchants knowledge (let alone permission), merchants are also getting reviews they don’t know about…because shopify forces reviews to be part of any product on SHOP.

It’s about Shopify pulling the wool over merchants’ eyes with misleading and misrepresentative controls in admin, and about alerting merchants that if they don’t know their products are on SHOP, then they also don’t know that they’re getting reviews.

Shopify isn’t good (to say the least) at getting this info out to merchants (or even their own support reps!) so we’re hoping to help spread the word.

@ooe518

This is not a setup issue and all standard troubleshooting steps, including Shopify support, have already been completed. Since products are still visible in the Shop app after removing Shop channel eligibility and waiting beyond the expected sync time, it appears to be a backend indexing or catalog visibility issue rather than a merchant-side configuration problem. This suggests a mismatch between Shopify admin settings and Shop app behavior, and it likely needs escalation to Shopify’s Shop/catalog team to investigate why updates are not reflecting correctly.
Thanks

Ummmm, is this a bot? Your reply makes us think you’re not reading or understanding what we write. Yeah, getting off SHOP (and even attempting to) requires escalation after escalation…but your reply makes us think you’re still missing the points we’ve made.

I completely agree with you. It feels like Shopify is just using our product catalogs to populate their own app to compete with other marketplaces, whether we like it or not. Forcing us into a review system that we cannot manage or opt out of is a massive breach of merchant control. What is even the point of having toggle buttons in the admin dashboard if they just ignore them on the backend? It completely destroys any trust in the platform settings when you realize your data is being shared regardless of what you click.

It is a major issue, and we really need Shopify to start respecting merchant choices instead of quietly pushing their own app agenda on our stores.

Hello @ooe518

As a Shopify partner, Shop can show any product published to the Online Store sales channel, and removing the Shop channel does not necessarily immediately purge cached product data. The best control you have is product availability - set products to Draft or unpublish from all sales channels and wait for reindexing.
When it comes to reviews, they are linked to Shop activity and you can’t opt out entirely, but you can flag reviews that violate your policies, and concentrate on fulfillment quality and providing accurate product information to build trust signals and mitigate damage over time.
