Hi! I’m Chanel aka Chef Lotus. The Queen of, "Get you a girl that can do both!” While I am comfortable with all things culinary, my heart truly belongs to the creative world of baking. There’s just something magical about the alchemy of flour, sugar, BUTTER that I just can’t stay away from. I’d say about 85% of my skills are self-taught, learned at the feet of my grandparents, The Food Network, YouTube University and Instagram.

After 20 years of serial entrepreneurship, and several career changes (Seriously, ask me about them!) that did not feed my soul, I finally decided to turn my real first love into a business. However, I also felt the need to dive into working as a professional to gain hyper focused experience. At one point, I had FOUR jobs! It was difficult but I learned so much. After graduating from a Baltimore culinary program, I held positions as an assistant baker, baking lead and pastry chef, even working as a baking mentor to the students that came after me. By no means do I know everything, but I am always excited to try it all. The kitchen will always humble you, but it is still my favorite place.

Based in Bowie, MD, The Baked Lotus Cake House will brings a hybrid menu of Southern favorites as well as fun rotations. My focus is cookies, huge brownies/bars, pound cakes, celebration cakes as well as handmade candies and treats. Fun fact, I don’t eat sweets as much as you think I would. I just need to make sure it tastes great. My favorite junk foods are French fries and ice cream.
