We were told the transition from QB POS to shopify would be a seamless transition and unfortunately its anything but.
Good luck! I hope you have a lot of extra time, money and resources to spend. That seems to be the answer for all of our problems.

There isn't an app... Shopify bought QB POS and killed it to eliminate a competitor and neither shopify or intuit thought of/cared that they were screwing all of their POS customers by not addressing this obvious and significant issue. Our entire inventory list will need to be recreated from scratch, this will take weeks/months to do. I don't know why we would stick with shopify POS or continue with intuits other products after this. Complete disaster. The icing on the cake is they pull this heading into the holiday season which is make or break for most small businesses (their core customers they are trying to service.)
I remember during one of the many online webinars, they distinctly said they didn't have Assemblies. One of the many reasons, we didn't end up switching and are sticking with QBPOS and moving merchant accounts. There might not be a perfect solution for POS out there, but from everything I've read and seen on this community site, Shopify is NOT it.
We knew that but we were told by shopify that a 3rd part inventory app would be able to solve this issue. All of the 3rd party inv apps we've spoken with have no idea what shopify was talking about...They can import/sync data from ENTERPRISE with shopify but none of the builds are there so thats not helpful. Just can't believe they didn't have a plan at all for this unless they really thought most customers would accept it and continue with transitioning to shopify POS. Not us, we no longer have plans to use shopify, this is a disaster.
I've been thinking about your comments all night and I am considering going back to QBPOS while I search for a better product. As long as I can find another Merchant Service to use, everything else should work the same - right?
I figure if I do it now, I'll only have about 2 weeks of business to recreate in QBPOS to get me back on track. I feel like that is a better solution compared to forever trying to get Shopify to do what we need.
Its unlikely we'll move forward w/ shopify POS now, even after purchasing thousands of dollars in new equipment. The only reason to use shopify POS would be if the transition from QB POS to shopify was simple but now that we have to start from scratch and rebuild our entire inventory/assemblies whats the point? There's better and less costly options out there. I don't understand why a tool can't be built to fix this issue. Shopify is not going to hit the new customer numbers they forecasted due to this problem so it would make a lot of sense to find a solution for it.
I have not heard or seen one response from anyone saying that Shopify will work on adding any of the features that we need. So there's no reason to continue on with them? I have also wasted a lot of time and money on this. There has been talk of a class action law suit and I would be first in line if it happens.
I feel like it was a pretty glaring lie by omission...They claimed to have an import tool, dedicated support etc. Failed to mention that import tool only imports the individual inventory items. I may be wrong but I would assume if you're using QB POS its because you sell assembled items and would now have to rebuild your entire inventory from scratch, which means there's going to be a lot of pissed off QB POS customers who no longer have a reason to convert to shopify POS.
We were all terribly mislead by QuickBooks and Shopify into thinking this was a suitable replacement POS.
Can we just PREACH this issue??? Those of us who rely on assemblies are at a loss about how to fix this……

I'm in the same boat. No fractional quantities and the "app" for that charges $30/month plus a per use fee and is so rudimentary to be ridiculous. I also have the issue with Assemblies. Have been spending hours and hours on Shopify's chats and just receive form responses with no solutions. Still can't migrate properly. Shopify isn't even syncing with their own Stocky app and so far I've been on that chat for an hour with no solution. this is an utter nightmare
Do you mind explaining how you setup a third party merchant service with QBPOS? I can only find where you setup the info for QBs merchant service, and QBPOS support won't answer any of my questions. They just say to ask the third party vendor how to do it. But I'm also having a hard time finding another provider that understands what I need/want.
Another lie. In their end of life announcement they stated we could use another payment processor option. It seems you cannot.
That's basically how I understand it will happen. And I'm good with doing all that. It's a small price to pay if we get all of the missing features back that Shopify doesn't give us.
I was finally able to talk to someone that confirmed that it was possible to use another cc processer. I went to the setup interview and selected "NO" when it asked if I wanted to use QB Payments. Now, if I make a sale and select "Charge" as a payment option, it brings up a little window to fill out for the credit card payment. The receipt will be sent to QB Desktop as a cc payment, but QBs will not handle the exchange of money (processing). I'm now working with a 3rd party processer to get my new account setup and working, then I will be back in business with QBPOS.

We've been using QBPOS for 13 yrs now and have never used their payment processor. We just have separate credit card terminals and run everything separately. This means we have to type in the charge amount each time on the terminal but by separating them it's been really helpful.
I'm looking into transitioning to shopify and doing the same thing. Use shopify as a pos and use a separate payment processor. This helps keep my costs low and I've found it's also more reliable.
Let me know what y'all decide, it's been helpful to hear other's experiences.
Good to know. Using a 3rd party processor is definitely going to be an extra step, but well worth it after dealing with all of the BS from Shopify.
Have you been reading all of the complaints in this forum? They do not even scratch the surface of the total problems after switching to Shopify. The only thing I like with them is the payment processing. Their card reader is really nice (compared to what I used to have). But I still STRONGLY recommend that you rethink your decision to use them. Their POS literally is a Piece Of S***!!!
We've decided not to use shopify POS. It lacks the most basic features of a true POS. W'e're talking to a few different companies about switching and using QB POS w/ 3rd party processing for now. What a disaster this has been.
I'm likely going to do the same. Hiring an outside consultant who knows Shopify and Quickbooks to help me untangle this mess. Good luck to anyone who has issues with shopify - getting competent support is another matter altogether!
Do we "own" the QB POS software? Could INTUIT shut it off somehow remotely or we can keep using it indefinitely just without support?
We're looking into lightspeed now, unfrotunately there's 2 programs.., One does what we need EXCEPT it can't handle fractional qtys. The other can do fractional qtys but lacks other functions we need. Is there nothing out there like QB POS? I want to just continue to use it but it sounds like eventually it will actually die and you just know thats going to happen at the worst possible time!

Yeah, well……there’s NOTHING seamless about this “migration” from QB to Shopify. It’s hell.
Our IT guy is incredibly skilled. He’s a professor at a large, reputable state university. He TEACHES the engineers. And even HE cannot figure out what the hel is going on with SOOOOO many issues.
So GOOD LUCK fellow retailers. Not only have we ALL been misled, we are now left to pick up the pieces and try to carry on while we have stores to operate.
We'll probably end up dropping shopify and QB enterprise after this.
FYI just make sure you do a demo with a rep! We found lightspeed wouldn't work for us. They have 1 product (R series I think) that can do builds etc but can't do fractional qtys. The other version CAN do fractional qtys but the builds don't work like we need them to. It may work for you just recommend you do the demo with them to be sure
We manufacture items, so converting raw materials to finished goods.
It doesn't do builds like QB where when you produce the item, it pulls the raw materials from inv. Rather it just tells you what can make with what you have on hand. It was weird functionality.
