Legally we were supposed to have them yesterday. Where are they?

Hi there, @Kelly_Matthews!

Thank you for your question. January 31st is the general deadline, but we (Shopify Payments) have a legal extension that allows us to exceed that date. Qualifying merchants can expect their forms by February 11th and the account owner will receive an email when it is ready to download.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with!

Hello, it's now February 11th and no sign of the 1099-K. Any update on when this form will be available? Thanks!

Hi, @Rarepress!

Thank you for your comment. Qualifying merchants have been sent their 1099-K forms, so it is possible your store didn't meet the threshold requirements. A merchant qualifies for a form if their transactions using Shopify Payments meets or passes the threshold (the federal threshold is $20K processing volume AND 200 transactions, but some states have lower thresholds, as shown below). These thresholds are set by the IRS and state tax authorities, not by Shopify. Here are the required thresholds amounts

2022 THRESHOLD
Federal >= $20,000 USD AND 200 transactions within the calendar year.
California Follows the federal threshold, with one exception. California has a threshold of $600, but that only applies to 'app-based drivers' (e.g. Uber). Shopify merchants are not likely to qualify for this category.
District of Columbia (DC) >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.
Illinois >= $1,000 USD in gross payments AND 4 transactions within the calendar year.
Maryland >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.
Massachusetts >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.
New Jersey >= $1000 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.
Vermont >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.
Virginia >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold.

If you believe your store qualifies for a 1099-K form but you didn't receive one, feel free to get in touch with our live support team through the Help Center so we can take a closer look.
