Can someone please help with this

im looking to do POS and dropshipping (custom fulfillment service ) the store has 1 going on 2 brick & mortar locations but orders placed online need to go directly to the vendors to be fulfilled. Even though Shopify classifies custom fulfillment services as ‘locations’ it won’t allow me to assign inventory to both the drop-ship per and the brick/mortar location for the same products . I’ve used different fulfillment apps but their so antiquated. My next step is creating 2 different Shopify stores so one can handle d/s & the other pos but I know there’s a way , or maybe an multilocations app I haven’t tried. Ideally I’d like to have the vendors and the POS locations visible in one place. I noticed few others were having this problem and it went unresolved. Reopening it back up .

please help

If you can't assign multiple locations to the new products, it means the location(s) has not enabled it.

Fulfillment services / locations have the choice to enable or disable "permits sku sharing", this means that when you select an inventory management, if they have that enabled, you can select multiple locations to manage inventory in the product page, and click checkboxes to enable the locations.

To solve that, I would contact the app / fulfillment service managing the location and tell them you'd like to be able to use multiple locations.

If you're talking about changing the fulfillment location based on the type of order, you should be able to do that in Shopify order details page by clicking on the 3 dots in the fulfillment order, then select change location. If you can't do that, you need to configure the location / fulfillment service to multiple locations. If you can do that, and you want to automate it, you can use Order Automator app to detect the source of the order, then assign the location you want based on drop ship or brick and mortar.

Thanks Joe!

Unfortunately at this time no fulfillment service/company or app. For more context ,  It’s the pos locations and small vendors that would be receiving the order details via email through Shopify custom fulfillment service . Is there a way to code in permit sku sharing ? Or a solution that allows multi managed inventory  ? Would I have to create a custom app solution for this?

I would contact whoever created the "Shopify custom fulfillment service" that you mentioned. If it's a fulfillment service they should have the ability to modify it.

Another thing to check, go to Settings > Locations. That page may give you some clues. When you click Add Location, it gives the option to fulfill online orders from that location. Maybe that setting has something to do with the location setup you have. Hard to say, you might have to do some experimentation with your locations / fulfillment services setup.

Thanks for your response and support Joe. The custom fulfillment service is a feature within Shopify under shipping/locations that allows you to connect dropship apps or connect vendors via their email.  It’s not an app or an outside service .

but it appears some type of  app may be the way to go. Can anyone recommend an app that allows you to manage small dropshippers while running POS?

As of now it’s looking like I’ll be separating be stores

Ah ok, ya I'm not really that familiar on that part.

Not sure if it helps in your situation but people use our app Order Automator to work with dropshippers. For example, you can create a rule to identify orders with products from Vendor A, then when those orders come in, it sends an email to the vendor with the order information (and optionally only their products).

If your vendor supports fulfillment requests, you can alternatively create a Fulfillment rule in the app to automatically request fulfillment for those orders.

Seems like creating / managing 2 stores would be a pain, I'm sure there's some kind of solution out there, you can do just about anything with the Shopify API so if our app doesn't do what you're looking for another one might, and if not them, the API is powerful you can create a custom app if necessary (we've built a lot of custom solutions for people when an app in the app store won't do it).

I wish you luck in finding the ideal solution
