I am using the Supply theme which unfortunatley does not have a newsletter popup. I am looking for the most cost effective but customizable option. I use Mailchimp for my lists

Hey there Kevin!
Wesley here from the Shopify Guru team. So my favourite app for newsletter popups is Privy: https://apps.shopify.com/privy. Privy has te best free option of any newsletter pop up in my opinion, and they have a great paid version as well.
Pop up window: https://apps.shopify.com/pop-up-window is also another great option.
Just though I'd throw my two cents in here!

Oh thanks! I needed this too. Installing Privy now. Oh my goodness are they ever helpfull! I could not find AWeber, but it was there and the support person was lightening fast at helping me! WOW!! So Easy!!!!
Janice, give Zotabox's Promo Bar a try. Their free version will allow you to do this, though you may want to whip up a landing page that explains your discount in more detail. It's a great way to also include an upsell for related products, etc.

I second the use of Privy - we installed it last month and more than doubled our email sign ups (from 14 to 32) in one month.
We have also found a few other positive side effects, which I can't blame entierly on Privy... but thats the only thing I can think of that we have changed!
We've reduced our bounce rate from 49% to... 6.79% Yes, you read that right! Plus, our pageviews have trippled - We have it set up for exit intent, so I think when people see we are offering a 10% discount if they sign up people go back to our site and browse some more.
Can't say for definate that Privy caused this of course, so I'd love to hear if anyone else has had similar results. I even looked to see if Google had changed how they calculate bounce rate I was that shocked!
Hope this helps 🙂
Thanks Joe! Just installed Zotabox bar. So Easy!!! Looks like they have an AWeber integration with the paid version for the email popup. Do you have any experience with that one? Looks like Privy has AWeber so I set that up.
Hi Janice,
Hi Janice, Aweber is an itegration partner of ours and you can easily sync your new emails with their app integration in Justuno. Jenna is on live chat and can help with any questions etc too.
How to sync Aweber: https://justuno.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217477818-Aweber-Integration

Good luck!
Hi Kevin, why do you not use the one that MailChimp already provides?
Here's an interesting post about MailChimp vs. Aweber:
http://mywifequitherjob.com/mailchimp-vs-aweber-a-comparison-of-two-email-marketing-providers/
I think there are pros and cons to both. Just depends on your specific needs and future growth.
I have used both (was on Mailchimp for 8 years). I am currently on AWeber and I love it.
Hey Erik, Sorry I missed your post. Thanks for the offer but Privy's free version worked out after all. Hopefully my site traffic will start to rocket then I can upscale down the road.
I love this one!
Hi Everyone, Really good suggestions. I will try the Zotabox and see how it works. Hope it will help us out. Will keep you all posted if i come across something better.
Best is subjective for any gizmo, what works for one business is a trainwreck for another, giving info on audience, budget and feature requirements is what you want to be asking to find something tailored for the use case.
Forewarning:
Best newsletter popup, is no popup these are reactionay items that can indicate a deeper issue. Always weigh carefully before adding noise to a stores experience. Typical side effects are sluggish page load, styling|javascript conflicts, and increased bounce rate. For reference check the feedback forums case after case of non-success with multiple widgets not being the magic button apps makes them out to be.
+10 years ago it was alert boxes, 5+ years ago it was window-popups, now it's modal-popups, adblockers, google and browsers will catch up. If modal-popups didn't exist how would you collect email? How would you want to be solicited for your email address?

http://optinmonster.com/pricing/ has a\b testing built in $9/mth
After such considerations try to test these apps|services at low traffic hours, preferably a/b test them , and|or using a duplicated-theme and the preview option(if able).
Never set-it and forget-it and be sure to disable unused apps that add to the client-side.
Though no matter how personally annoying, time and time and time again they are be shown to be effective at collecting email addresses, there is no guarantee those are good emails. When you add one of these gimmicks traffic must be carefully monitored for unwanted shifts and tuning to your specific audience. And conversions through the newsletter itself must be weighed ,as their's no point of hundreds of anonymous emails(adfdf@gurellia.com or similar) , nor immediate unsubscribes that don't convert.
Be sure to visit the site with an empty browser cache like a new user would have(incognito windows, different computer, etc) so you are not caught unwares of unwanted behavior.
We have it set up for exit intent, so I think when people see we are offering a 10% discount if they sign
This is a good example of one stores success, so don't feel frustrated if the same tactic doesn't work for your case. Install test and tune. Note also the uncertainty about what the results actually mean this is where the danger lies and can mislead you if testing is not carried out with discipline.
tldr; Always validate business assumptions, be rock solid in knowing your audience before using popups and prove usage with data.
Hi George from SmartrMail here. Just throwing my 2c in that we now have a free pop up too! We're a paid email marketing app on Shopify, but if you just want to the simple SmartrMail pop up to collect emails it's free :).
Otherwise agree with Wesley, Privy is also a great option if you're after some really custom cool stuff with your pop-up.
Cheers
There are some free ones without branding. You can try M1 app and we've found it works really well.
