Getting Likes and Shares on Facebook

Hello,

We want to generate more Like and Shares on Facebook to get our numbers up before launching any promotional stuff on Facebook that gets paid for.

Thing is, is that we are overwhelmed trying to figure out a good flow for this. This is a run down of what we want to have happen:

1. Send a message to our mailing list encouraging them to Like and Share to receive a Free+ Shipping gift
2. Once we see that they have Liked and Shared our page, we will send them a private link we set up on Shopify for a special product we set up as a Promo. This page is not linked anywhere on the site, so is "invisible" and will only be active for a week or so while people redeem their gift.
3. Then, after a week goes by, we want to post a similar promotion to Facebook as a paid promotion, having people sign up for our Newsletter (mailing list) in return for their private link to the promo

Thing is...is we aren't sure if all this will work. I am working with a programmer who is trying to set up the free plus shipping on this one item.

Does this sound like a fruitful endeavor or does anyone have any other ideas? We don't want to spend money on any app subscriptions at this point, but will if that's our only choice.
