I've been working with the Google team to set up Google Shopping and have run into an issue that they unfortunately aren't able to help with because it's on the Shopify end.
About half of my products have been listed as disapproved in the Merchant Center. Diagnostics states "Ensure that Google can access and crawl your images" and the Google support rep said there is something preventing Google from crawling those product pages.
It seems strange that Google is able to access some of the product pages, but not others.
Any suggestions where to start?

A few of our ShoppingFeeder users experienced exactly the same thing with Google Merchant Center even though we make a copy of the images and host them on AWS. To fix the issue they went through the auto declines in Merchant Center and clicked yes to "changed photo" and then hit redownload.
What I assume could be happening here is that the GoogleBot encounters a slow response and assumes that the images can't be crawled.

The problem ended up resolving itself over the course of about one week.
Andrew's hypothesis seems to be the most likely cause of the problem.
I am the same issue on a large scale. The images are all there and google is having problems crawling them. See screen shot.
It looks like there is some kind of throttle from my product images to the google shopping merchant center. About 100 to 200 product images are "allowed" to be crawled per day. If an image is unavailable to be crawled then the product is disapproved. It looks like it will eventually resolve itself. Is there a throttle from Shopify?
