Hiding a Product from Search Engine

I have a product that's for promotional purposes only. I send direct link to potential buyers, but I don't want the product to show up in search engines.

How can I achieve this?

Hi,

You can create a metafield for that product with the following data:

"namespace" : "seo"
"key" : "hidden"
"value" : 1
"value_type" : "integer"

Brilliant. Can you explain where and how do I place this metafield?

Hey,

You have to install an app from the app store.

For example this one. It has a free plan.

Find your product in the app and add the metafield.

Hey there.

Lizzy here, I’m a Shopify support Guru.

We have a guide in the Shopify Help Center that explains how to add a snippet to your code that will hide a page from search engines. You can read it here!

You'll be able to find the page handle it mentions on the product page in your admin. It is located in the Search engine listing preview section.

Before making any changes to the theme code I always like to suggest duplicating your theme. You can do this by going to Online Store>Actions>Duplicate. Just in case you need a backup.

Do you have an email marketing campaign that you're using to share this link with your customers? We have a great course about email marketing in the Shopify Academy. I wanted to share this with you, as it might offer some tips to help you get the most out of any promotion you're thinking of!

Thank you,
Lizzy

I use a free app called Simple Admin to add custom metafields to products.

Hey,

To hide the product from a search engine, mark it nofollow noindex in theme liquid.

If you also want to hide the product from the store, so that only those customers can see who have the direct URL of the product. Try this app: https://apps.shopify.com/autohide-soldout-products

It hides all soldout products from the store automatically without putting efforts doing it manually one by one.

As according to this article, you can delete one or all products from your Shopify store. Maybe you'll want to have a look at it

Hi, I used the bulk edit link to set the value of the hidden seo field to 1, but the products still show up in site search. I've tried multiple browsers after clearing cache, and the products still show up. Is there something else I have to do?

Now, the metafield is changed from value_type to type and integer is changed to number_integer. Is the trick still working for the new metafield?
