How to find a digital marketer?

Most agencies want $5000 a month.
How does a small new business find legit marketing help? I've tried myself but cant get anything.

It's tricky...  Big agencies will charge big fees but there are plenty of freelancers and start-up agencies out there who charge more modest fees while still doing really good work.  Sometimes, in fact, I think the little guys care more and probably undervalue their services so you might get a good deal.


I'd try looking on Upwork and look for someone reasonably local.  I would also always go for a native English speaker, it really does show when you start writing ads if it's a second language, even if they're fluent!  You could also try joining some facebook groups and asking around.  You'll get bombarded with offers of services from loads of people in the group but very often people will be tagged who have a good reputation and you can reach out to them.


Yes, it is a bit of a minefield but there are good people out there.

If i remember correctly, on upwork do you post a job and set a price and they come to you?

To find a good digital marketer who can add value to your business is to see their past records and ask as many questions as possible.


Secondly, start with a low budget and don't pay too much in the beginning phases. Once you start seeing growth, you may pay more and invest more in advertising 🙂


You could reach to new marketing agency with good track record or success rate. Their charges should not be more than $1000/month 🙂

If you don't have a large budget you can always check Freelancer, Upwork, PeoplePerHour and even Fiverr (Just make sure you check their reviews and recent work etc)

Hey Vvel, moving past guys spamming their services here, it really depends on what you need to be done.


If you are looking for someone to help you with Facebook ads, Adwords or email marketing, you can go to Upwork and post a job with a detailed description there. You can then invite freelancers that you like to apply for the job and others will apply as well. You can browse profiles and see their portfolio and reviews and get a good feel on what you can expect.


If you are just starting out and you are not spending a lot on advertising at this point, then you shouldn't pay more then $1000/mo to anyone. I would say that $500-1000/m would be a good range that you can expect.


People on Upwork generally won't screw you over (if they've been a long time and have stellar reviews) because your negative feedback can really burn them.


You just need to clearly define your goals, budget, and deliverables but also you need to follow their advice and strategy that they propose as that's what they know best.

We have to keep certain things in mind for a digital marketer:

  • Firstly, they should be highly analytical i.e. should be aware of the ways of finding the right numbers, interpreting them, and making strategies to improve their KPIs.
  • Secondly, they should be well versed in writing content. They should know how to write captions for social media, how to write copy for PPC ads, and how to write SEO-optimized content for your blog.
  • Thirdly, they should have proper knowledge of SEO. They should have knowledge of keyword research, optimizing specific keywords, which of the on-page signals are important for ranking, the difference between white-hat and black-hat SEO, and more. Also, he should have knowledge of some major SEO tools.
  • Fourthly, they should know how to write a proper Email. The content should be appealing to the client. They should be aware of various email marketing tools for automating the process.
  • Lastly, their communication skills should be very good.

If you are going for an agency, the prices are obviously going to be high. Especially in western countries.

You can outsource your work to a good Eastern Country Agency. I myself used to work in an eCommerce Agency and basically many western agencies would out source the work to us.

In that case, you can find a good business straight in India and cut the middle man.

If you have basic knowledge of digital marketing, you can always hire freelancers off fiverr or upwork and you can just monitor their work.
