How to handle Google indexing two main pages?

We have an issue with Google Indexing two pages as our main page, at least it appears this way. First it has indexed website.com but it has also indexed website.com/password, from back when the site was password protected.

We didn't think much of it in the beginning but from what we can find in Google search console it keeps recrawling the outdated site and we are wondering if this could cause us problems? Is it safe to remove webiste.com/password? If so, what is best practice?

Hi @heterjagelnour,

have you submitted your sitemap after moving to non-protected version of your site?

If you're not using the password protected version anymore, the sitemap shouldn't include it and if you submit your sitemap, Google should be able to recognize that the website.com/password is missing and won't be recrawling it.

However, it might take Google some time. The recrawling issue takes quite a lot of time these days.

Hope this helps!

Did you recently create the page or request indexing? It can take time for Google to index your page; allow at least a week after submitting a sitemap or a submit to index request before assuming a problem. If your page or site change is recent, check back in a week to see if it is still missing.
