Hello All,

Me and my gf started this little website after getting local demand, we have invested in social media and all kinds of things to date we have sold only 2 candles... We think they are unique so do most people, but our sales just don't translate over. Any suggestions or feedback would be highly appreciated.

Hey I have reviewed your store. Header looking good but the store is too basic. If you want to make a great impression then you've need a great design. I hope that will help you. I am telling this cause now a days there are too many online stores that's why people loosing the trust. I think you should use a premium deisgn. If possible a custom bespoke deisgn.

Thanks

Alright, anything else you would suggest such as content or anything in that area?

Yes regarding on content you can write your products description this way

make a story relevant to the product and by that try to tell the benifits of that and where to use. I have checked one of your description and it's says good for birthday. You can make it more compelling by the way I mentioned. 🙂

If you're not good at writing I would suggest you to hire a copy writer from upwork to write up the content for your store and about us. Make that compelling with a new design and pack those up. It will help hopefully 🙂

Hey DazzlingCandle, I will give you some insight into what I think you need to improve..

First off, if I was on Facebook and clicked on your ad.. I would have done so with the intention to be sold to. Interest.

When I landed on your site, I wasn't being sold to. Disinterest.

To put it on the table in as short of an explanation as possible.. you need to make sure that your landing page is informing the visitor about what you sell, why they should buy your product, how your product benefits them, who uses your product, where they can buy (paypal button here) 🙂

..and you need to demonstrate all of that info precisely to avoid them leaving, adding engagement triggers etc.

You have a video there and a description.. thas OK but its not working..

Take my advice. Present it well, and you will see an increase in sales..

Have you tried ads with narrow fb targeting? Everyone whose bdays or anniversaries are coming up... You may even find people only into candles.

Also you should use the power of referral and social media. Share social media posts that say "Tag a friend" who'd love these candles. You can create and share these using OrangeTwig. Since your product is very good for word-of-mouth, when people tag their friends you could actually generate some orders from that.

Share some testimonials. You can make these with OrangeTwig too.

You seem to have a very narrow selection of candles. It is not very clear if you only have that many or more. Maybe you can make this more clear on your site.

If you are driving lots of traffic, see what are your drop off points in the path to conversion. If you are not driving enough traffic, work on that. You need to identity the main "problem area" first and then address it.

Testimonials you create on OrangeTwig will look like this:

All the best!

You're charging $10 for what Walmart.com sells for $5.

That CAN work if you market and brand it right.

But you have 2 products. That's it. And on your site it's hard to tell if the cake is part of it (a candle that looks like a cake) or not.

Good luck.

Hello,

So in order to make a sale, the customer needs to trust you and be wowed with the experience right when they get to your site. With your site, its rather plain. To help with that, I would get a new layout.

The videos lead me to a Vimeo that I can't see because I don't have an account and I couldn't navigate back to your site easily. Had I been a customer, id be gone forever.  My advice on the videos is to embed them instead of dragging them to a new site.

For the products, there are only two. I would highly advise having quite a few more products in order to give the customer a variety. This will also help build trust as it will.show that your a potentially large company.

For the pricing , 9.99 is steep for single use candles that goes on a birthday cake, UNLESS, your site matches that high price point.  Make your site look nicer, you can sell the candles at 9.99.

The about page, I would hire someone to write a vivid about page to inspire people about what you sell.

These are just my opinions though. Candles are hard in general but can be sold with the right marketing!

I agree wiith russ, my first thoughts was just 2 products.  You need to sell an experience than just a products.  The website starts with 2 videos, perhaps an eye catching image first as mobile app people don't want to use up data on a video.  The images are not so crisp and alot of the basics i would expect are missing.

Don't get down hearted take what the guys say constructively and remember its a marathon and not a sprint.

Hi. This may have already been suggested. Here goes:

The store is basic.  It needs more products. A return policy. A strong statement as to why your brand is different - what's so special about your candles?  I'm not clear. It needs to smack me in the face within a minute of being in the store. Slap me into wanting to buy! ?

I like your your pictures but I don't think they fit the aesthetic of the modern day consumer  have you researched the look of candle stores both local and national? Of course this is a matter of preference.  The candies might be the best out there, but the branding, aesthetic, and photography is not selling that.

Who is your ideal consumer? I'm curious.

I don't think the main focus of the page should be videos.  You have a nice clean header, but the first content you see is a couple of stacked videos.  It's not immediately apparent that you are even selling anything, and if on mobile people are likely to navigate away from your page almost immediately.  Since you just have the 2 products, they need to be immediately visible when the page loads.  Your videos can come later, after the person has decided if they want to see more about the candles.

I also agree that more products would benefit you greatly, however if that is what you are working with, you need to make a REALLY strong case for why people should purchase from you.

I would also consider listing all the different colors as seperate products rather than variants.  Not only would this flesh out your assortment, but it took me several minutes on the site to even realize they came in different colors.  I would personally also ditch the Gallery section, all the product photos are on the product pages, and it makes things look empty with only 2 pictures there.

Hi

So I think you need to get some product placed at the top on the front page, the videos are ok but it doesnt sell anything to a buyer!

As for the 2 products you have on the shop, the photos need some work. Buy a cheap light box on Ebay and use it to take quality photos. On the products page, write about the candles, what are they made from and how long do they last? Maybe a buyer can find this elsewhere on the site but most people won't search any further than the product page!

Regards the Soccer candle, very impressive but how do i choose the Trophie or the Ball? Or does it open out as per the pics? These are all questions that need to be answered on the product desription.. Maybe like this -

Happy Birthday Dazzling Soccer Trophy Candle.

These great handmade candles are a fantastic way to celebrate your favorite person's birthday! Watch their face light up as the Trophy unfolds and displays the soccer ball in the centre. Light the candles on the trophy leaves and it's time to Party!

Product Information-

Made by hand

Made from ?? Soy, Standard wax ( Important to say )

Candles last up to ?? hours

Choice of colors

Great for parties or as a gift

Please remember to make your own descriptions, without this part people will drift away with lack of interest. Do exactly the same thing for the Flower candle.... you have to get the buyer's attention - put the video on the product page as well.

Make a blog about how much fun and excitement the candles can create. Blog about candle fun facts, and maybe a bit of history on candles. Use links from the blog to the product pages to help with SEO.

Not sure if you have don this yet, but set up Google analytics and Webmaster - Webmaster will be the place to upload your /sitemap.xml, without this Google and Bing will not list it properly.

Also remember 'White Space' is important. Think about making the Header white, your logo will stand out more and change the font color for the shipping and sign-in.... I'm color blind and it makes it difficult to see. Move the 'Buy Candles' part to be next to the 'Home' on the header.

Make a ' How it's made' page with photos of the raw ingredients right through to the finished product. Remember, it is a craft you are using to make these candles!

Change the Buy button so it changes color once they hover over it, It's a call to action - make it stand out.

Add a phone number, say where you are (USA, Canada, Europe) and say which state and town/ city, customers need reassurance when spending money. Invest in a domain email, Gmail always looks cheap to me. On the contact page rather than saying 'Concerns' change it to 'Advice', the customer may suddenly think - Concerns! Oh i better be careful.

On the Gallery page, add photos of the candles opening up to show how they work and do it with all the candles you sell.

Add a shipping and returns info page, it reassures the customer.

As you make such nice candles maybe think of more designs and get them on the site or ask for customers custom orders

Change your theme from a free Shopify theme to a paid for theme, I used - https://www.weareunderground.com/collections/shopify-themes and found them great for support on customization. After all they are only $140 to buy but you will get a higher responce over time.

Good luck

Roger

Hi Dazzling Candle,

Let me give you my 2 cents before you hire the first designer you see to splach out a large amount of money.

I agree with the statements above that the design needs to be improved, however content wise there is also a lot to do.

Some very quick wins:

- Contact us page: Use a form standard build into shopify. Than the potential customer doesn't have to do an extra step to try to contact you.

- E-mail address. You've got the dazzling candles domain, so please use your @dazzlingcandle.com (while typing this I see your « company name » is « dazzling candles » and your domain is « dazzlingcandle » without the s. minor detail but it probably won't help in a customer trying to trust you)

- About Us: Write a lovely story. Just like you did here, You and your Girlfriend started this online store because of demand in the community and now started online. BAM you had me, that's why I checked your site. However now I see a lot about I and We in the about page without having the feeling you are talking to me because I can't picture you in front of me. Quick win would be a picture of you and your gf while you're holding one of the candles with the proudest smile ever. That would translate your passion for this product and connects to your audience.

- Products: Yup I'm sorry but a little more products are needed. (On the happy bday flower. It looks like there are 2 different "variations" the blue & yellow seem a different model than the others). Than split them into a seperate product. Tada already an extra product in your store 😉

- Product description: Needs to be enriched with some more info.

- Landing page: My suggestion is make it easy and simple. Start with a banner, than your product overview, than USP as why you are unique (ofcourse make that story a bit more appealing), than the videos.

Basically try to enrich it, give it a persionality, appealing visually if possible.

And for the design, the designs for shopify are not that expensive, and the "better" ones are pretty customizable yourself without any coding.

Greetings,

Maarten

Here is a way to sell more.

Find a local custom baker on FB and approach them to partner on some marketing.  Make sure he or she really likes your candles and has at least a 1K plus of a following.  You are going to either pay this person to pitch your producs on their social media or offer them a % of the proceeds by tracking purchases from the baker's campian by using a code at checkout or by another method.

Set up an hour to film (you can use your smartphone, just make sure to use a tripod or something to stabilze with a solid backdrop) and record a statement from him or her regarding the uniquness of your candles and/or using the candles (keep this short, around 30seconds or less no more than 1min). "Dazzeling Candles found me on Facebook and said ""Hey look at this!"" I did, and now I'm in love!" something they say that is this simple will have a great effect. Take some pictures putting your candles on some of their cakes and then have the baker post one or two to their social medial channels and link to the video/website and recommend your products.  You can also sell them right through FB as well by sharing those same social media posts and boosting them and get a much higher conversion rate.

This is best way to quickly build trust from customers, and get a great ROI on you dollars. Hope this helps give you some ideas and good luck!

Hi there,

I am a Shopify shop owner myself. Here are my thoughts about your site:

1. Shipping info should be at the center. You could use a banner to give more information about shipping, or a FAQ page to answer those questions.

2. The videos can probably be placed a little lower on the page rather than at the very beginning of the home page. The main highlight as soon as someone lands on your website should be your product in one way or another.

3. Your product photos DO NOT highlight the candles, rather they highlight the cake.

4.  Photos on the Gallery page are not clickable.

5. Try maybe reducing the height of the header, it is occupying too much space on the home page leaving users to scroll more to get to your products.

6. The Contact Us page can really be combined with the About Us page since you don't have much content there.

Having said that, your visitors should feel happy when they visit your site. Ask your friends and family how they feel when they see your site the first time. Measure that (approximately) in happiness per second..the more HPS(happinesss per second) they feel, the more likely they are to buy your product.
