Hi, I am new to Shopify, and I sell beauty products online. Any one can share what apps you use for marketing? What works and what I should avoid? I have limited budget for ads.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Ya Lan!

Andres from the Social Support Team here.

First off, welcome to Shopify! Let's dive into your question 🙂

There are a few options available to help you with marketing on a budget. When you pay your first invoice, you become eligible for a Google Adwords credit. The amount of the credit will depend on your country of operation. You can read more about how to redeem this offer HERE

As for an app - the best type of marketing apps are those which can handle advertising campaigns and then read the resulting data for retargeting purposes. I recommend looking into an app known as Kit. It's newly free to use and will ensure you get the most out of your social media advertising! We have a manual available HERE. You can also browse through the different marketing apps on our App Store HERE.

Best of luck with the new business! Take care ?

Hi Ya Lan,

Congrats on starting out on Shopify. I checked out your website and Oh my god, it's breathtaking. Your effort shows! I loved the 'pop up' and the 'message us' elements - shows that you're thinking about capturing emails right from the start. That's a brilliant move. And you have a referral program too.

Now from all the good to what you can do -

You only have presence on Facebook. Facebook is essential since anyone checking out your store would probably first check you out on Facebook. That's just how we are wired. You need to grow your following organically first before you jump on the paid ads bandwagon.

Post lots or different types of content and with hashtags - hashtags are crucial for discovery. If you're wondering what types of content, here's an article that'll get your creative juices flowing - 47 Content Ideas

For Quotes, tag a friend and this or that (mentioned as content types in the blog) use OrangeTwig: Here's a sample post.

Along with content types, you'll need to post about your product as well. Don't just post product links, post images. Images in templates not only look stellar, they are also great for brining attention to your posts. Here's what I am talking about:

Don't worry, you don't need photoshop skills for this. Use OrangeTwig. With OrangeTwig, sending posts like these will literally take seconds. Not just this, you'll be able to create sales and promote any coupons that you might have; like your Free Shipping coupon.

Now Facebook will be a little tough to grow your following on, so I’d suggest you go on Instagram. It’ll be easy to start and build on. Just focus on these two things:

For relevant and high frequency hashtags for your posts, use OrangeTwig’s hashtag research tool.

OrangeTwig’s InstaSuccess ToolKit will help you with a lot of other stuff as well:

You can learn more about the Insta-Success ToolKit here.

There you go, OrangeTwig is the one app that you need to get to turbocharge your social media marketing.

Happy Marketing 🙂

P.S - in about a month, OrangeTwig will be launching Q-rator. With Q-rator, you'll be able to post any type of content from around the web on your social channel with just a few clicks. Check out about Q-raotr here.

Just an input. Intermal marketing is a great way to increase Average Order Value and upsell to your current potential customers.

So use some of the great apps listed above (Affiliate Based, traffic exchange) in this discussion and then once you have that traffic, market to them AGAIN. (Promotions in Cart, Marketing your Stores Message throughout the site)

Give Kartify a look at if you have a sec: https://apps.shopify.com/kartify

I know a lot of people who use an app which is not exactly a marketing app, but surely increases the conversion rate.
What is does?
It shows the most recent orders in your store in a form of a beautiful notification. It gives your visitors more confidence and more confidence leads to more sales.
The app is called Show Recent Orders and you can get it here with a free 10 day trial:
https://apps.shopify.com/show-recent-orders

Why should you use it?
Because you are probably working hard to get people to your online store. And you don't want them to leave your store immediately without placing an order. This is where this app helps. It makes this social pressure which makes your visitor to order from your store.

Hi Ya Lan,

first of all, welcome to Shopify 🙂

Albeit not really a marketing app, I would like to point your attention to Luigi’s Box, a tool which will help you to fine-tune search on your store. You should not only care about getting people to your store, but also support them while they're there. Site search is often overlooked, but has great potential.

Some of the reasons why it is so important can be found in the case study posted on Luigi’s Box website

Hi Ya Lan,

Great site! I don't have much insight on apps, I just started my site. I sell somewhat similar products and I was wondering if you are using Stripes through Shopify or another payment gateway?

You may have already done this but before focusing on advertising I would first and foremost make sure you know who your buyer demographic  is and if your store is designed to convert that traffic into sales. Otherwise, you may end up wasting marketing dollars.

For a starting global store it might be beneficial to look into trust certificates.

Protect-ID.com offers a pretty neat service with built in A/B testing. It might give your CVR a good boost.

Best luck!

Hi Ya Lan,

As a fellow shop owner (https://www.luggageoutlet.sg or https://luggage-outlet.myshopify.com), here are the marketing apps that worked for me:

Personalizer - Recommends similar products to customers so customers can make a more informed choice (and improves bounce rate too). They'll also spend more time on your site even if the initial item isn't the right one for them.

ShopVenture - Automated mails get sent to customers to request for customer reviews. This tool has proven more effective than other Shopify Product Reviews Addon as I've received a number of reviews since. Customer reviews are the best way to increase trust for first-time buyers on your site.

Hope these help!

Cheers

Hi Ya Lan,

I would definitely consider adding SocialShopWave. All-in-one app that brings all social apps to help you drive traffic, increase customer engagement, and sell more. The app includes several amazing apps that can replace almost all your social apps:

Social Login, Wishlist, Reviews, Social Sharing, Community Feed app, and Instagram Photos -

https://apps.shopify.com/socialshopwave

Growave is the all-in-one marketing platform that helps Shopify brands reach their audience, engage users and increase conversions with ease: https://apps.shopify.com/growave

Hi Ya Lan,

thank you for the question. I was about the ask it too since I finished my jewelry store over the weekend. So much to learn and decide if you are doing it for the first time. I have hard time to even know where to start with applications.

Did any of you have and experiance with FOMO (Boost sales with social applications).

Best

Hi Ya Lan,
Nice to see you here. Whereas you've noticed that you're new, you must bring traffic to your website. The easiest way to do it - social media ads (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube). These social apps will help you to manage traffic. It's very nice that you're collecting users emails and sending newletters - as you will notice in the future, social media ads has very low ROI and conversion rate (you can find it on image bellow).

So you will need to find a method to bring customers back to your website. In my opinion, the easiest way to do that is to use email marketing. I use Soundest app to solve this problem. You don't need any specific knowledge to you this app - you can create newsletters just by browsing your store with feature called "product picker" - it saves you lots of time because you don't need to code single blocks, everything is drag-n-drop. Also, it has cart recovery automation, so your customer will get notification about his abandoned cart and the most likely return to your store.
You can find more information about it's features and lots for valuable ecommerce information on its website.

I would look into the apps which allow you to expand into selling on other platforms.
