Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Do I need to purchase the Advanced Plan to sell internationally. From looking at the different plans it seems so. Thanks!
Hi, @Jean-Pierre1!
Thanks for reaching out in our Community forums and for sharing your concern, I’d be happy to help.
I understand that you would like to sell internationally. This is definitely possible with the Basic Shopify plan as well. The best way to do this is through Shopify Markets. This is a cross-border management tool that helps you identify, set up, launch, optimize and manage your international markets - all from a single store. If your store is eligible for Shopify Payments, then you will be able to set pricing in local currencies which allows your customers to view, and check out their local currency. If your store is ineligible, you will want to set up a payment gateway for your desired currency so that you can collect payments from your customers. Which area are you located in? I'd be happy to help find a payment gateway that works best for you.
You will also want to set up your shipping and ensure that your international customers will be able to receive their product. You have the option to select multiple methods of shipping, but a very common method for international orders is carrier calculated shipping. With this rate, the price will be automatically calculated based on location, size, and weight of the product, which will ensure that you are not overpaying for shipping. Click here to learn more!

Hi again, @Jean-Pierre1!
Thank you for getting back to me and for your great question.
If you would like to collect duties and import taxes in your store's checkout while using Shopify Markets, then your store will need to be on the Advanced Shopify, followed by a list of requirements that can be found on our help document here. As suggested, if your store does not meet the requirements or you do not wish to upgrade your plan, then you can use a third-party app to calculate duties and import taxes.
Offering duties prepaid is also a great for merchants as it offers the most clarify on purchases, resulting in less chargebacks, refunds, parcels, and a better overall experience to your customers. We have an awesome article that goes into detail about this called Better Global Buying Experiences with Duties & Import Taxes at Checkout that I suggest checking out.
