Setting up subfolders to target different countries - possible with one Shopify account?

Hello,

For SEO purposes, we would like to target separate countries using subfolders.

To start with, we would target the US with the main domain, and then the uk with www.domain.com/uk/

Going forward, we would also like to target Norway, with www.domain.com/no/

The uk folder would have a duplicate of the website, but with slightly different wording and £s instead of $s

The Norwegian folder would be a duplicate of the website, but in Norwegian, and with Euros.

Is this possible on Shopify? Is it possible with one single account or would we have to have an account for each country? (I can see the headaches already with multiple accounts!)

Many thanks,

Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, you can target countries like this today with subdomains using our international domains product.

While I don't have any timelines to share, we are working on adding the capability to target different countries or regions, similar to you have outlined, using subfolders.

With OP I mean the original poster. The person who asked the question originally. I'd like to know if this is now possible with Shopify Pro. I will paste the OPs post below:

So country targeting is only possible with subdomains and not subfolders/directories?

At the moment, that's correct yes.

@coleatkinson still no news about this?

We'll translate our store this August. Likely going with 2 Shopify stores and 2 different TLD. Just pretty annoying in terms of SEO because we're not especially targeting a country but rather a new language. Additionally, the off-site SEO tasks will double.

Cheers,

Gaétan

Hi Coleatkinson ,

Any update on the OP?

When will Shopify be launching the support for subfolders?

I see the "Markets" tab is invite-only. Can I get early access to explore the possibility of subfolders?

Hi there,

Yes, subfolders is now available with Shopify Markets.

We plan for this functionality to be available to everyone in early Q1 next
year, we are currently in the Early Access period - if you sign up using
the link in your admin we should be able to make this happen in early
January!

Hi how do I change the content on a subfolder page? Google us indexing it so the meta title must be coming from somewhere but I can't find it

Hi!

From what I can tell, using subfolders with Shopify Markets also requires Shopify Payments to set different currencies for different markets. Correct? I'm in Norway and Shopify Payments is not yet available here. A workaround could be to set up multiple stores, but would it be possible to direct visitors to domain.no/eu, domain.no/us etc. via a country selector when they enter domain.no?

This is now possible as part of our new product, Shopify Markets, which is in early access and available to some merchants. Please apply for early access if you haven't already. We are aiming for all merchants to have access as soon as possible.
