Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
I built my store in English as a default language and then did the translations manually since auto translation to Hungarian is pretty much usesless, with all the translation apps (indluding the auto translate in this app).
When I finished with all the pages, product descreptions, etc and finally I wanted to switch my default language to Hungarian, ALL the translations I have done were gone. Dozens of hours of work!
Even though the warning on the Language page explicitely said that my translations won't disappear if those were done in Translate and Adapt.
And bang - everything gone!
I contacted support but they were equally useless, trying to covince me for half an hour to use auto translation, but not giving me a solution.
I was hoping to revert everything back to the point when I changed the default language, but apparently the time stamps to revert back don't affect apps, only coding. (At least that's what they say.)
Great, I have to start from scratch and needless to say I am frustrated beyond WORDS!!
I've seen another guy who had the same problem (in the app reviews) but I don't know if there is a way to save all my work and get my translations back...
I appreciate all help preventing me starting over the whole translation process (or shooting myself).
Thanks!
I have the same problem today. But didn't change anything! Maybe it's an error on the Shopify side of things?
Hi @jjanssen95 please send me a DM if you are able and we'll look into this.

Same thing happened to our store brewio.ge today. All manual translations disappeared even though there were said according to the app.
Hi @Mikael_Krasnov, we'll sort for you. Did you change your default language? Which language did you lose?

Hey,
Nope. No default language changes. Not sure if it has something to do with Georgian alphabet or user rights but our employee did everything correctly and it showed that the translation was saved, but on the app it now shows the autotranslations and in the store-side same too.
User had full rights so not really sure what is going on.
Ok not seen this before - so Georgian was auto-translated, then manually corrected, saved, but it's reverted to auto-translations, is that accurate?

Hello!
Exactly. Shows it is saved but then reverts back. Now I tried it from the admin acc and it works, so maybe something to do with user rights after all?
We'll look. Permissions shouldn't have an impact. Where you've said "Shows it is saved but then reverts back" if there are any screenshots you can DM me that would be very helpful.

Or any specific products / pages / other resources this has happened so we can investigate further

Hi Rich, it seems this too has happened to our store... we lost almost all of our translations, and our store was translated into French Italian German Spanish and French. Can you please help here?
Sorry to hear this @sophialerub but it'll likely be resolvable. Were you using Translate & Adapt? Can you tell me anything you did, e.g. change theme, change default language, use different apps?

I'm having the same issue as you! Did you get some reply, solution or message from Shopify ? Please keep us updated! Sadly this is a very ugly issue coming from Shopify.
In the end it seems like a GitHub problem for us. Basically there is a "duplicate theme" created and now there is a mismatch between the translation csv and the themes content/section ids so we have to match them and upload the translations again. We are trying it the coming days. Don't know if it's the same problem for you, but I will let you know how it worked out.
Hey,
Don't bother with Shopify support, contact the app developer Richbrown_staff (see his replies in this thread above), he took care of my issue!
Thanks! Just one question, did you use several translation Apps by any chance? Because that is my issue. All translations were done with Translate & Adapt (The native App from Shopify). At the time I've installed a different one (I think it was G | Translate or Transtore), here is when I realized that all translations were gone. Let me know please if that was also your case.
hi @richbrown_staff this has also happened to our Shopify Plus store using the native Translate & Adapt app.. English is our default language and we have our store translated in German and French. However, suddenly all the French translations are gone. Is there a way to bring them back? Will be highly appreciated as we've spent hundreds of hours manually translating.
