Can I add an alternate template to theme editor?

I am following this tutorial (Create alternate templates) to create a custom product page. Can I include the alternate template in the theme editor under the new section architecture?

What i am trying to do here is creating an app to generate the custom product pages. Users can adjust the layout in the editor.

Or should I use master page? But it can only support 1 master page per type

Hi Sillycube - we're currently finalizing how alternative template approaches would exist in the new sections everywhere context, and evaluating the best way to manage different types of master pages. We'll have more info coming soon, but in the meantime, you can learn a little more in the recent Partner Town Hall that featured an update on this feature.
