Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hello,
I have a question about setting up my bank account. I live in Australia, have an Aus bank account but when i go to payments to provide my bank details it comes up with my banks routing number and account number. Is this my banks BSB number? I tried contacting support and they were unsure of Australian Accounts.
thankyou
Bek
Hi @raiandco,
Hank here from Shopify. Really great question!
I researched, found out and can confirm you are correct, you would need to input your bank's BSB number into where it states the Routing number should go.
Once you have that added to your Payment Providers screen along with your Bank account number, this will be where your Shopify Payouts would be sent going forward.
Let me know if the above worked for you!
All the best, Hank

There may be a few reasons for this message not appearing for you, is your friend located in Australia also?
Then currently, is the BSB number working for your store and you are able to receive payouts?
Lastly, are you and your friend using the same bank for the payments? It may just come down to a few reasons, but can you confirm the above for me?

Hi Guy's,
When setting up my account details in Australia, Shopify simply will not accept my BSB number. It is a six-digit number 123-123 or 123123. Either way, this is entered it comes up as invalid and will not let you proceed. I have entered several bank account BSB numbers for both UK and Australian bank accounts and the same invalid message comes up. My accounts tick all the boxes required by Shopify.
When you talk to Shopify support they can NEVER help with anything worth knowing, they always say after about half an hour of stuffing around that they will escalate the issue and that someone will get back to me, this virtually NEVER happens.
I think Shopify offers very poor customer support. Let's see how this goes.
I got this working by typing in the numbers - not copy and pasting. hope this helps.
Hi,
My Shopify store is based in Australia and I am putting my BSB in the routing number but it’s not accepting. Can you please help me
Hi
I cannot receive payout as I am receiving this message:
Your payout couldn’t be deposited because the bank account details you entered were incorrect. You need to enter bank account details for a valid checking account. Your payouts will be on hold until you resolve this issue.
My Routing number and account numbers are 100% accurate and set as per post above... please response ASAP>
I cant even change my account number if I wanted to, as it now will not recognise my old bank account!!
I have entered a 6 digit routing and a 7 digit account... alas FAIL
HELP! This is our livelihoods here..
Yeah I’m having that problem too. It won’t allow me add my account number it keeps coming up as an error
Thank you for reaching out here everyone. Without tagging my name, I did not receive a notification, so apologies for the delay.
I have spoken with the billing team and they have assured me that the below information is all you need when setting up Shopify payments in Australia. I would recommend typing it, instead of copy and paste, and no special characters are (- /, etc) needed.
Let me know if you run into any issues!

Hi, this is for @Hank?
I came across your name in a thread from last year and I am hoping you can assist.
I am based in Australia and having trouble getting Shopify to accept the BSB number I am entering.
I have tried multiple times (typing in) the BSB number : 182182 and to no avail.
Please help!
Thank you.
Hey @raiandco.
Thanks for reaching out.
I appreciate the context that you have shared as that is super helpful. It is a bit odd that the Bank State Branch number (BSB) is not being accepted into the Shopify Payments gateway. The BSB and account number should not have any hyphens or extra characters added. If you can confirm that no additional characters are added, I would suggest that you may need to contact your bank to ensure that the numbers are correct. With that being said, each region also has local requirements that the bank account must adhere to. For Australia, the bank account must be with a physical bank in Australia, in AUD currency, and eligible for BECS transfers.
Let me know if that works for you, I am looking forward to your reply.

Hi Ollie,
Thanks so much for outlining this for me. This is on someone's behalf, so taking a bit of too-ing and fro-ing.
I didn't add any hyphens etc. It may be that the account doesn't meet the requirements you listed as it is with Macquarie Bank.
I will ask them to look into it and let you know.
Thanks again,
Tara
