How to resolve a DMCA takedown notice for an unlicensed theme?

I got an email saying

"Hi there,

Shopify recently received the attached Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Takedown Notice alleging that content on your Shopify store is infringing the Complainant’s intellectual property. Specifically, we have been notified by our Theme Partner that your Shopify store is using an unlicensed version of the theme listed in the attachment."

It says I can solve this buy paying for the theme.  I paid someone over a freelance site to make my page a few years ago.  So I'm not sure what theme they used.   When I go to my Themes in Sales Channel, it doesn't have the theme name, it just shows my sites name.  So I'm not entirely sure how to pay for it.   Any help would be great, thanks.

I can understand this is a tricky situation for you, I am sorry you are experiencing this. You mentioned you are not sure which theme you are using - the easiest way to determine this is to go into your theme editor by going to Online store > Theme from your store's admin and then clicking into "customize" for the theme in question. Once you are here in the theme editor, you can see the exact theme name and version by clicking the three dots symbol in the top left corner, here is how it appears for me:

When you click here, you will see the theme name and version and the dev team who support/sell the theme and so you will then know who to reach out to regarding payment. Now you mentioned you hired someone to build this store and they are the ones who used this theme - did you hire this person via the official Shopify Experts Marketplace? If yes - then we may be able to help you by mediating between you and the expert to hopefully come to an agreement in relation to this theme. I trust this information helps, thank you!
