Why am I getting a payment error on my store's test payment?

Hi, I am trying to launch my store and during the test payment I am receiving the following error:

"There was an issue processing your payment. Try again or use a different payment method."

  • I use Stripe payments. (Poland)
  • The order I am trying to process is in production mode with a regular product.
  • I've also already chosen the active Shopify Plan and set up my address and store details.
  • I've tried with different card.

Due to the issue the store is password protected: https://norrbotany.com/

Can you assist, please?

Hi, @JuneIsabel and @Hernus.

Can you confirm if your test order is more than $1 USD in amount? As the system will present you with an error if your test purchase is lower than the equivalent of $1 USD in any currency.

To further troubleshoot this, you can also follow the steps below:

  • Try to complete a test order on your store via an incognito window
  • Or, you can use your usual browser but to clear the browser's cookies and cache
  • You can also try another browser. For example, if you're using Safari, you can try to complete your test order on Chrome or Firefox
  • You can also try to use another device, if available

Can you also make sure that the credentials you're getting from the respective third-party gateways you're using have been entered correctly on your Shopify admin's payment settings? If you've checked that your credentials have been entered exactly right, as you're both using third-party payment gateways you can get in touch with the gateway's support team directly. They're best equipped to support you further with this matter, as they'll be able to look into your account in more detail to help investigate this situation for you.

I'd also like to confirm if you're both placing your test order using the steps listed in this guide? Fully testing your checkout is an important step when setting up your store, as this will make sure that the checkout process is operating smoothly and as intended.

Once this issue has been resolved, it definitely pays to take a closer look at the checkout process on your store, to ensure that this process is as smooth and easy as possible for your customers. To further help optimize this, some tips that come to mind include allowing guest checkouts on your store, providing multiple payment options, and implementing accelerated checkouts. Feel free to take a look at our resources below, for more information on this:

Thanks for confirming, @Hernus.

If you need some more help with troubleshooting this, you can also get in touch with our Live Support team via the Help Center here.

As mentioned however, due to the third-party nature of your payment gateway, our team's scope of support is rather limited. What we can do however, is to perform some more initial troubleshooting steps together with you on your store. If need be, our Live Support team can also contact our Technical Specialists on your behalf, to see if they can investigate the matter in more detail.
